Canada is getting rid of its Antisemitism and Islamophobia Envoy roles in favor of an "advisory council".

Here's why I think this is probably a mistake.

The antisemitism envoy role has been empty for months, with Carney promising to fill it after the envoy, a non-Jewish woman, quit, citing that the government was not taking these issues/concerns seriously.

The argument for having a council is a "unified voice" that stands up to hate.

But Jews know that more often than not, such a council will "weigh concerns" in such a way to dissenting (ie Jewish) voices through anonymity (ie only speaking through the council), though selection (only those who "work well" with the council stay on) or through swapping out one voice with another.

I am extremely skeptical of this, and frankly of Canada's response to hate.

"Some 78% of #European #teachers have seen students commit #antisemitic acts, and 27.4% witnessed nine or more such incidents, according to a #survey by the #UnitedNations.
