When writing fiction, do you find that the most fun is sometimes in creating the supporting characters in your cast of characters? I do! In my romance drama, The Fifth Seduction. Jimmy Valley is the foil, or the comic relief character, who is excruciatingly annoying to the two female leads, Julia and Mable. He is the TV host on the successful series they created and is popular with the public, so they can never be rid of him, but behind the scenes, he makes their skin crawl. Later in the book, we learn that Jimmy got his start in "show business" because his father hosted a kids' show in England. As Mable narrates: "That explained even more about Jimmy: A puppeteer in a dog costume raised him." In this graphic, Jimmy dines with a mortified Mable and her boyfriend, famous rock star Daniel, while on location for the reality series in Australia. #australia #realityTV #book #books #writing #bookstodon #sunday #novel #novel #writing #writersCoffeeClub #writers #writer #writersofMastodon #OriginalCharacter #character #comic #humor #rock #rockstar #television #drama #funny #scribesAndMakers #author #authorLife #authors #fame #romance #TV

How can the physical form of the writing become part of the storytelling?

I’ve taken to including references to a mysterious figure some of my characters occasionally come across in the course of the story. He’s described as claiming to be a writer who is researching the existence of magic and the supernatural in London. He’s an older bloke; he has appalling dress sense wears leather jacket and jeans. Easy to recognise, he’s got longish greying flyaway hair, a neatly trimmed beard, and he wears specs and his eyebrows sprout out above the frames of his specs. I wonder who it could be…

@Tim_Hayes_Author

I found it easier than anticipated to produce a Kindle version of my novel How to Succeed as a Supervillain by Following the Evil Overlord. I found having to reformat the chapter headings into a mix of upper case and lower case a bit of a hassle, or perhaps I should say tedious. Other than that it was easy. So, it’s now available as an eBook for those of you heathens who eschew the hallowed printed page.

Two New Impersonation Scams to Watch For - Writer Beware

Impersonation scams in publishing tend to be variations on a theme, since the goal is always the same: to sell you something. In that sense, the scams below, which are aimed at tricking writers into paying for editing, don’t break new ground. Still, the approaches are distinctive, and I’ve seen enough examples at this pointRead More
