  • I've yet to see any concrete examples for real - plus the "incompatibility" can be mitigated by converting from #OOXML to #OpenDocument.

  • Yes and no. Certainly #Linux support is often tied to specific #certified systems but any firm that can afford to license #Autodesk's Products can also afford to buy a Workstation like a #hp Z-series and a #RHEL subscription, because the users are far more expensive than the #Hardware and #Software they use. I'm pretty shure #LinusTechTips pays more for #cleaners or a #janitor even if both are externally subcontracted part-timers per year than for Adobe,,,

    • OFC the fact that Autodesk et. al. were allowed to de-facto #monopolize #EngineeringSoftware is a failure by #FTC, @EU_Commission and other #AntiCartel #MarketRegulators to intervene...

    • And even if we have something that requires #Windows, I can assure you from my own experience that a #KVM-based #VM [regardless if on a #Workstation or a Serverfarm like a #Proxmox cluster - with or without passthrough to dedicaded Hardware] is way less labour and pain-intensive than #BareMetal just from the #Backup & Restore aspect alone that it's worth the investment...

    • There is no law requring sites to tag visitors.

    • You ain't on a payment processors' site or online store where fraud prevention has a place to be.

    • This also ain't like a bank where on top of fraud prevention, KYC & AML applies and they don't want skiddies to empty customer accounts with trivially stolen credentials.

    @arstechnica Sadly this shit ain't new - I have a 15+ year old #OfficeJet #AllInOne that will complain about lack of ink and will refuse to #scan or #fax without one manually clicking away the warning on the device.

    But that's #hp - level #Assholeism, they do the same with #hp-branded #RAM on their #ProBook|s and #DeskMini as well as #Z-Series #Workstations and brick #unattended & #PXE #boot in the process...
