@reiddragon @fuchsiii personally, I find the #ExaArcadia doesn't look like a system worth it's painful asking price compared even to a fully-decked - out #NeoGeoMVS 6-slot board + Games to match!

And I do kinda question the value given that they literally shove a #PiPico on their JVS Adapter Board.

  • I don't mean like a #RP2040 but like the box-standard board and that adapter PCB has up to 5 frames delay!

@mlanger ditto.

It's just that "#AlwaysOnlineDRM" is more of a malware and hinderance than anything.

  • #CCSS vendors / publishers should not haggle me post-payment/installation, for it is none of their business how, when and where and what for I use their Software.
    • Their interests have to cease at the initial, one-time-only license check.

With #FLOSS this issue just doesn't exist. Worst-case a distro like #Debian will remind me to 'please get some updates' but not only can I tell it to 'shut up, and never ask me again' but I can even update it as an airgapped system from a burned disc, external drive or NAS.

  • And believe me, folks like @fuchsiii who were stuck on #56k until the 2010s already faced that problem.

Similarly, I think #FrugalComputing has it's merits and I'd love to see more things like @violenceworks 's #VT69 terminal

  • Maybe something with like a #RaspberryPi, keyboard and an #eInk screen…
    • Just for distraction-free writing

@__hetz @vantablack it really depends greatly on the specific Game...

Like @fuchsiii has a lot of issues with weird games that are i.e. #32bit but use a #16bit #Installer, require legacy versions of #DirectX / #Direct3D if not #DirectDraw or have other issues.

  • For the most part, #GameScope is broken so many 1990s games without much fans are constantly getting broken much to her frustration.

Obviously this doesn't apply to newer mainstream titles like #Crysis where one just chooses an older version of #Proton / #DXVK and can just game fine.

Obviously #Valve ain't saints but even if I was a #Steam-absent #Developer or #Publisher I'd at least not go out of my way to cockblock people from gaming on it, when it's hardware is roughly on-par with the #Switch2 and unlike #Nintendo's shitbox it isn't a closed-off platform.

  • It's just that sadly none of the big publishers seem to care - yet.

And with the expected retail price of the #SteamMachine closer to €1k than €500, it'll be kinda hard for most consumers to justify buying in and thus developers to do more than the bare essentials.

So yeah, #LinuxGaming has issues - I'm not gonna deny that - but certainly these are certainly not due to Valve, but rather:

@bschorr doesn't change the fact that #Microslop is a shitty #Corporation and #MicrosoftOffice being #enshittified is a serious problem.

Nit to mention all the #AIslop is #WastefulComputing!

@Lydie I hope not ib terms of tight ibtegration, but I see the problem:

  • Too tight bs…

My guess at that point will be that any performance losses due to lack of optimizations will be outweight by processing speed increases.

  • Cuz that's what happens today anyway…

We'd rather see issues with #Enshittification due to #Malware like "#ClientSideAnticheat" or #AlwaysOnlineDRM, becauce *"#Client-side #Anticheat" and #CensorBoot-intertwined #DRM is the only thing that prevents the deserved 100% win of #Linux for #Gaming!

@ahrienby also #AAA #Gaming sucks, because the price/value transactions feel like shit.

Even A/A+/B/C-Titles feel way better and I'm not even looking at rare examples like #Minecraft that get continous post-launch updates & free content expansions for over 15 years now…

  • Like when was the last time anyone had bought a AAA Title and felt satisfied after playing through?

Cuz mine was still in the #7thGenConsole era…

@KaitoCross not really.

Similar to #SteamDeck, all it needs to do is deliver a good experience.

Jobverlust)!

@heiseonline ja, weil #PhysicalGames dysfunktional (#AlwaysOnlineDRM) und unvollständig (Gigabytes an Patches & Updates erforderlich) verkauft werden...
