This would have been impossible in Ada. Or Java. Or even /Swift/ (yes, their own language would have prevented this).

Una pregunta sobre codecs de audio y contenedores.
Estoy ripeando música en FLAC a Opus y veo que Fre:ac me da la opción de meterla en contenedor .opus o en contenedor .oga, me imagino que el contenedor opus es preferido, aunque sea mimetype Ogg, así que la cuestión sería ¿usar opus u oga? y en caso de opus por encima de oga con que codecs de audio se recomienda .oga y pregunta bonus he bisto que se puede encapsilar Flac en .ogg ¿que usos tiene eso?

I spent 1 week to configure recording of screen,
microphone and camera.
I was able to make it in two steps:
1) record screen in parallel (wf-recorder tool)
2) record camera and mic in parallel (ffmpeg)
3) combine them (ffmpeg)
I was able to record only Wayland environment without
Linux consoles.

@ezra personally I think #Apple should be forced.to implement #AV1 & #WebM and that @EUCommission could mandate #OpenStandards.

  • As for quality, were it not for #patents and espechally #SoftwarePantents, we'd have way better #Codecs, but this way people engineering a #FLOSS #Codec are constantly required to specifically avoid infringement of Patents and other IP by not using anything remotely related to it...

Also if #H265 wasn't #patented and facing #PatentTrolls and #rentseekers we'd see way better quality there as well.

  • Cuz #CCSS & #FLOSS can't share code nor expertise at all.

And yes, Apple (#MPEGLA-Member) is at the root of the problem!

not that vp9 is bad quality, leagues better than h264, just not as good as the others imo. i'd say please use vp9 for web video but unfortunately Tim Apple and we're stuck with h264 because iphone users exist EDIT this is not a slight at iphone users, keep using what works for you, did not mean for this to hit so hard with the fossbros lol, this is a slight at tim apple

Modern #Codecs like #Speex and espechally #Opus really work great on #Mumble and other solutions like #WebCall and #SIP-Clients like #Linphone.

  • Unless you're stuck on #Iridium, then #Codec2 is the only thing narrowband-efficient enough to work at all...

Have you ever encountered VLC unable to play a .mkv file when your machine is plugged into hdmi? I have this .mkv file that will play fine on my MacBook screen, but if I plug an hdmi cable into my MacBook to output to a projector, VLC just shows a black screen, even after restarting VLC.

Thankfully I was able to get what I wanted playing over the projector from a different source and in a different format but I'm still really confused. #VLC #mkv #hdmi #tech #VideoFormats #codecs #mac
