@MichaelimOdenwald There is an entire ecosystem on my Win10 machines. The ecosystem has a problem with migrating.

I totally reject where M$ is going. Just like with Adobe they control access to your creations with their subscription models and worse with sneaking in exploitation clauses to your intellectual property.

One way I could imagine is via the router and the computers MAC-address (which identifies hardware): telling it to firewall it from the internet, but allow access to the LAN (local home network).

I think they removed the dependency officially now, from the iso only.

FWIW, the main trouble spots for Linux gaming are titles with certain anti-cheat solutions (take a look at https://areweanticheatyet.com/ for more information). You'll also run into issues with certain productivity suites not running easily/well, e.g. MS Office, Adobe, etc., but there is alternative software depending on your needs. Besides that, most games run surprisingly well, and the experience as a whole is pleasant if it works for you.

If it is about Retrogaming, there is Batocera, a specialized Linux-Distro for exactly that. More current games are more likely an issue. But It's mostly about Anticheat. Other options are modding Anything Ubuntu or Nobara. Or, if you are techy enough, Arch Linux. Steam works on And Desktop Linux quite fine. And the Steamdeck effectively runs an Arch Linux. So, its a Matter of comfort with initial configuration. At the end it will work either way.

A Windows VM is only an Option, if you really need (means no proper replacement Option, whichbos really rare in the meantime) a Software, which doesn't run with wine, no matter how hard you try.

If you have one or two of the problematic Games, I would keep a dual boot Windows-Linux.

@macronencer There is also the possibility of skipping or loosening the compatibility checks, and then upgrading to 11 on machines that do not fit the official requirements of Microsoft.

Edit: For others: As someone who loves using Linux, I'd recommend giving Linux a try if you can, but of course there's also many for whom that is not an option.
