Is there anything I have to look out for? I don't want them to worry about third party kernel modules. Thinking on putting Nobara on since that has the Surface modules built-in IIRC, but ideally something simple like Mint would be perfect.
The Privacy DadI've added an update to my article about installing Ubuntu on a Microsoft Surface Go 3 tablet. I was able to install and boot from the linux-surface kernel in the end! The stylus now works well.

vipaal@CassOfDunshire fair point. Installing #Linux on the #surface looks a bit involved, and I don't own one. If you have not already found it, https://github.com/linux-surface/linux-surface/wiki/Installation-and-Setup lays out the steps for a large number of surface devices, and their feature matrix looks good too.
