I came across this Hoary bat today, at the end of my hike. It was flipped on its back, shivering on the cold & wet pavement.
I carefully flipped it over as it hissed at me like a cat and bared its cute little fangies.
Then it took a few steps and flew off like a little air force hedgehog. #hiking

Have any #Linux users tried this? It's called Swiss File Knife, and is a #FOSS utility available via Sourceforge.
It contains 100 command line utilities of various types.
It downloads to Linux as a single binary and is pretty easy to run and use so far.
Kind of fascinating, too, that it's cross-platform...
I haven't used it much but I'm wondering if it might be simpler than some similar Linux utilities.

Are there any movies featuring pets that use those little floor-buttons to talk?
That is such a fascinating world... I'm told there's a dog that used their buttons to express a wish to be human 🥺

Every once in a while I think "I should learn all the esoterica of Bash scripting in the same way I walked the fascinatingly detailed path of the Windows Batch File, as a kid!"

Then, I push a bit further down the Bash route, and the comparison is EXACTLY like those threads where someone asks "what's another Linux game like 'Torchlight'" and the top suggestion is...Nethack...

(Not bashing Nethack!)

I really love scripting langs like ABS-lang.org and the like, but also, Bash is just a thing that's all over the place...so it's good to be fluent...

So, mobile devices now have: Crash detection, disaster alerts, satellite SOS, quick emergency dial. Now, we see AI & image detection, too. This makes me wonder:

How many years until your device will be able to end a physical altercation, or defend you in a physical attack?

Against animal, human, ...bot? ...drone?

What will the mechanism(s) be? Cave brain says "typical physical weaponry" of course, but what else, or what creative combination might do it?

Or, will the device decide what the mechanism of defense will be, based on its physical orientation to the activities at hand, and the type of confrontation it can sense?

What would a false-positive look like??

Consider, also: It has been decades since we saw a meaningful disruption in self-defense tech.

So, there has been a massive regression from the mean, in math terms.

What will it look like when that rubber band metaphorically snaps back into place?

Would you pay extra for a device for a family member, that could meaningfully improve their chances of surviving a dangerous situation? (Or would you wait until it's standard?)

Hmm?
