Apparently somebody at #KDE #KDEPlasma saw the previous toot, because handing a remote file to a non-SFTP-supporting app is now done safely via FUSE! 🥳

i'm posting this here so good information remains relevant

#troubleshooting PSA for people using a #firefox based web browser on #KDE #plasma with a #wayland compositor:

if you're getting some strange flickering in your display every now and then, it might not be your desktop environment natively, but rather your web browser. i had been struggling with this for weeks until i found a post in a support forum from back when wayland was first seeing widespread adoption. messing with HDR and scaling settings didn't seem to affect the issue, but this config change did

in your about:config for your browser, you need to switch widget.wayland.opaque-region.enabled to false

for me, it was that simple. i have been using this laptop for hours since the fix, and in a timeframe in which i previously would have seen dozens of little flickers on my screen, i have yet to observe one. i hope this information helps somebody

@mauro

I had been on #i3wm over Ubuntu for maybe five years, maybe more. Last month I bought a new laptop and decided it was time to move to Wayland because, well, it's the future and, like when Python 3 replaced Python 2, there's no point in staying where I feel comfortable.

The initial plan was installing #Sway over #Tuxedo OS, but I found that I could not use it as I was using i3, so I have been trying the default #KDE #Plasma over the past weeks. It looks like it will become my home 🙂

In a quick turn of events I've switched from qtile to KDE. Basically the first time ever I'm stable on Wayland (since I can load ICC profiles for my monitors).

I gotta say KDE is just phenomenal, super customisable. I'm not using any TWM plugins, but I've recreated my virtual desktops setups and all my keybindings, so it feels like home and it's a polished and complete desktop system, for a change.

I love it!

Akademy 2026 is coming to Graz, Austria (September 19-24) - Infosec.Pub

>Akademy is the annual event of the KDE community, and this year we are celebrating its 23rd edition. Akademy is a free, non-commercial event for developers, translators, designers, and other contributors meet in one place for talks program, meetings, and coding on the different projects that are part of KDE. Our attendees numbers keep growing year over year. > >During 2020 and 2021, Akademy moved to an online model which saw an increase in online engagement during the conference. In 2022 and 2023, we adopted a hybrid model combining online and in-person participation to reach hundreds of attendees worldwide. This approach continued in 2024, setting the stage for an even larger event in 2026. The same model will apply during Akademy 2026, and we expect attendance to grow, making Akademy 2026 a year for collaboration and innovation. This year Akademy promises to be unforgettable! > >Who is organizing Akademy? KDE e.V., the organization supporting the KDE community, is organising Akademy.
