Crowd funding: Point & Click adventure "Tomáš: King of Rejection"
Mark Bauermeister’s "Tomáš: King of Rejection" aims to be a tribute to “the 1990s, the golden age of adventure games”: In the game, described as a "slapstick comedy" the player must involuntarily take on the role of Jesus after a time-travel accident, having pushed the latter out of the way when trying to connect with a certain Mary Magdalene.
I installed a Gotek running the FlashFloppy firmware in my Otrona Attache 8:16. This should make fiddling around with different disk images a little easier. No more needing to whip out the 386 utility PC to make backups of my scratch disks.
back in 1996 i was a year away from graduating from high school and deep into my cd-rom obsession
from 1994 onward, every month i bought a $12 copy of CD-ROM Today because it came with The Disc! - a coverdisc packed full of mac and pc demos and shareware
except for one issue. this issue. as the resident early Seinfeld hater of my people, i was also a proud Jim Carrey hater when he was at his peak.
i was so truly offended by the cover of this issue that i refused to buy it on principle.
a month later, I went back to my Coles bookstore to get my fix, and the magazine was gone from the shelves. i checked two other bookstores - it wasn’t out of stock; it had disappeared entirely. by september, it was clear that the magazine was never coming back, and i gave up looking for it. i was heartbroken - it was something i had counted on every month for years.
a few years ago i started buying every issue of the magazine i could find. it took months just to assemble a complete year’s worth of issues.
and then, this morning: I begrudgingly flip open the issue that i had refused to buy 30 years ago. a note from the editor explains that as of this issue, CD-ROM Today is ceasing publication, and forking into Boot magazine and MacAddict!
i would have been fucking overjoyed to know that i now had *two* cd-rom mags to buy! instead, when i saw MacAddict and Boot appear on the shelves, i just assumed they were inferior fly-by-night zines that would disappear after a few issues. 😭

Los usuarios que se aventuran a instalarlo pueden ver la línea de tiempo, revisar sus menciones, buscar etiquetas temáticas y, lo más sorprendente de todo, previsualizar imágenes en miniatura directamente en la pantalla de sus monitores de tubo antiguos.
El secreto detrás de esta hazaña técnica radica en una herramienta llamada DOjS, un entorno que permite ejecutar código Javascript bajo el viejo sistema operativo de disco de Microsoft. Gracias a esto, el programa puede gestionar las conexiones de red necesarias para hablar con los servidores modernos del Fediverso y traducir los datos en una interfaz visual limpia y adaptada a las tarjetas gráficas de la época. Para los amantes de las computadoras clásicas, los requisitos mínimos son un viaje en el tiempo: basta con tener un procesador 80386 y apenas 4 megabytes de memoria RAM, aunque se recomienda una computadora tipo Pentium para que el desplazamiento por los mensajes sea tan suave como la seda.
El desarrollo de este cliente se mantiene activo gracias al soporte de su comunidad en sitios como GitHub, donde recientemente se han integrado mejoras críticas en las librerías de seguridad para que la aplicación no pierda compatibilidad con los protocolos actuales de la web.
