Steven Spielberg unexpectedly joins London pub quiz centered on his films while promoting new movie

Acclaimed American filmmaker Steven Spielberg made an unexpected appearance at a pub quiz in central London, delighting attendees during an event themed around his own filmography. The gathering took place at The Devonshire in Soho and was hosted by BBC Radio 1 film critic Ali Plumb. Spielberg was accompanied by actor Colman Domingo, who stars in his upcoming film Disclosure Day. According to the pub’s co-owner, Oisín Rogers, Spielberg expressed that he had a “lovely time” and particularly enjoyed the relaxed atmosphere, even mentioning his appreciation for a pint of Guinness. Ali Plumb later shared photos of the event on social media, showing Spielberg and Domingo mingling with patrons, prompting enthusiastic reactions online. Among the responses, broadcaster Zoe Ball humorously referenced Spielberg’s iconic film Jaws by joking that the venue would need to be bigger to accommodate such a moment. Spielberg is currently in London promoting Disclosure Day, which premiered in the United Kingdom on June 4 and is scheduled for general release on June 12. The film features a notable cast including Emily Blunt, Josh O’Connor, Colin Firth, and Eve Hewson. Its plot centers on a meteorologist and a cybersecurity expert who uncover a long-standing conspiracy involving governments and powerful corporations, leading to a high-stakes pursuit to suppress the truth. The project marks Spielberg’s return to science fiction themes involving extraterrestrial life, revisiting territory he explored in earlier classics such as E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial and Close Encounters of the Third Kind, both of which earned him Academy Award nominations. Spielberg has also recently expressed his belief that humanity may discover alien life within our lifetime.
