Hello #ScienceMastodon. Journal of Experimental Biology #J_ExpBiol is an online #journal published by @Co_Biologists. Led by Editor-in-Chief Craig Franklin, we publish research across the breadth of the #comparativephysiology #biomechanics and #neuroethology.

We’ll be tooting about our #research papers, #interviews and #editorials We’re also committed to supporting early-career researchers, so we’ll be sharing information on our initiatives for #ECRs.

Hello all - I just landed here! I will share science, news, and solutions for #biodiversity loss and the work we are doing in our research group at McGill U, in the Quebec Centre for Biodiversity Science, and with GEO BON.

I will also be sharing news from #COP15 in Montreal over the coming weeks.

For Fungi Friday, I’m sharing two really nice fungi from this week: a White Saddle, which we spotted in a Holm Oak forest. This is the first one of these I’ve seen. The soils were very sandy at this spot as it was on the ‘Montagne de Sable’ – a sand hill formed in one of the meanders of the Ardèche river. The other, unidentified mushroom, was in deciduous woodland and very tiny, but its violet colours really stood out against the green of the surrounding moss.

My #introduction : I'm a university professor in #Biology interested in how people learn. I do research in #SOTL . I'm interested in #urbanism and #CityPlanning to transform #quebeccity into a #HappyCity. I'm the VP of the Québec #bike coalition (La table de concertation vélo des conseils de quartier de la ville de Québec) and VP of the St-Louis neighbourhood council. I have been #traveling, #cycling, playing outside and enjoying life with my husband for 22 yrs and with our son for 17.

I just moved from another server so here is a fresh #introduction.

I am a postdoc/Liber Ero Fellow in Québec, Canada. I grew-up on a small farm in France, surrounded by nature and small-scale agriculture 🏞️🐑

I am studying #ecology, #evolution, #behavior and #nutrition of terrestrial wildlife. Now mostly working on the #conservation of endangered species.

I have been studyin amazing wild hamsters and chipmunks, and recently started working on #bumblebees !

New #preprint! Review of #parasite consideration in studies on wild animal #performance This is a big collaborative work among
Binning, Boisclair, and Dubois labs in the biology department at Université de Montréal, led by @MBarouDagues, Joëlle Guitard, Jérémy de Bonville and myself. Highlights:
- 680 articles published in 8 journals between 2016 and 2020 were screened
- few studies consider #parasites in their design or analyses

Few studies of wild animal performance account for parasite infections: a systematic review

At the moment this site feels a little like the awkward first days of a #conference where you don't really know anyone and are wondering what the etiquette is.. At some point the posters will go up and the refreshments will come out...

Feel free to sidle up (follow) - especially if you have interests in:

Disease ecology friends! I'm co-editing a special issue of Ecography on the biogeography of disease, with a month left to submit proposals (not full papers!).

We're looking for research papers (including bibliometry / text mining), and in particular contributions form under-represented groups/authors/institutions. Early career lead authors, and everyone who is not a "big name" in the field, are especially encouraged to apply!

This week the Cornell Lab of Ornithology released fine scale population trends maps for over 500 North American #birds based on #eBird data. These maps are the culmination of several years of research and development by the #eBird Status and Trends team, and all this work was only possible because of the amazing community of eBirders who contributed 43.8 million checklists to the dataset we used to estimate population trends.

Trends maps - eBird Science

A new generation of eBird Trends maps, released in November 2022, provides an unprecedented fine-scale view of where bird species are increasing or decreasing. Identifying such trends is the crucial first step to begin identifying ways to reverse pervasive declines like the ones identified by the 2022 U.S.
