I have lived experience of those high unemployment and economic shock years. Not pleasant memories.

There is one economic model that might fit your thinking, I remember seeing someone tooting about it a while back, darned if I can remember whom though or what it was called. The word ‘commons’ keeps coming to mind and I recall thinking at the time that this was a #Zombie economic model, an old system dressed up as new.

Of note though is that common ownership is already there in the public sphere. All public assets and services are commonly owned and failry democratic in operations (Unions rep are present in most Department management levels — I certainly participated and was very active in Defence). I would not expect any common ownership in private assets though the shareholder model does and that represents a restricted type of common ownership. I’d also contend that there is a level of democracy in annual general shareholders meetings as well.

Workers’ Coops work where the workers (including management) are the only shareholders of the means of production in a capitalist system. This is not new. There are working enterprises structured this way in the UK I believe. That these are not widely implemented speaks to issues and problems (though I’m ignorant of the specific cases or causes). A Communist system does no implement this in any way since everything belongs to the State as it does in a truly fascist system. Socialism is a many faceted beast and might have pockets of workers’ Coops but it would not exclude private enterprises either. All of these have been tried in part or in full and economic history is riddled with their remains. Unlike other economic models, Capitalist systems have been structured and shown to work using the whole gammut of possible structures, from #Slavery to privately owned empires. The same could not be said of other historical economic systems. In my view, the greater the diversity of structures the more likely it is to be a successful economic model as a whole and the greater the benefit to society in the aggregate.

If you can point me to economists proposing new models I’d really appreciate it (ommiting MMT ‘cause I know about that one already). Thank you for the conversation.

For half a century Americans were brain washed to think that unions are anti-American and the source of economic problems. Unions were corrupt and hollywood spend a few billions propagating the notion of corrupt unionism.

This is the effect of that campaign, the state forms neo-nazi police, executes unarmed people on point blank, and the next day everyone is back to work, no strike, no protest, no problem ... tv emphasizes that normalization took hours, an unfortunate moment ... nothing to see here, move on!

The anticipated development in the world by both #Republican and #Democrat in the US is as follows:

Everyone in the world will adopt the US dollar as currency and work hard to pay off through taxes the astronomical and constantly mounting US debt that feeds 3 industries (defense, biomed, oil). All other currencies will be obsolete. Debt to US based banks/finan. will be transformed to US$, cash of other currencies will be banned and exchanged with nothing.

All power will be supplied by the tiny cartel of Oil/Coal that controls most of the markets now.

The only role of local states will be to run police/riot-control and prison/concentration camps against those with alternative visions.

Everything conceivable that relates to survival, sustaining life, (land, water, food, health care, education, material resources) is privatized and free and open in the market at a market set value, no restrictions. No such thing as public land, water access, sea, lake, river, or forest. Just like hallways in a mall will be provided under "conditions" by the corporate owners.

Everyone works, pays taxes, consumes market products, and serves the western elite running ALL SHOWS, 6hr of sleep and over again.

You may still vote to maintain the custom, and witness campaigns on corporate media (all media) but only among those that support the above system and express no criticism. Any alternative to the above will be branded terrorism and the advocates of such extremism will be neutralized. Call it ornamental local government that only obey corporate/banking orders.

Anyone caught not carrying a registered, functional, cell phone will be executed at point of the arrest and in public.

Speaking against #Google #microsoft #facebook #amazon #apple will be grounds for execution at cops' discretion.

And there will be no reason for war and conflict ever again.
