A Glimpse Into New York’s Cooperative Ecosystem
"In the Hudson Valley, we visited the workspace and showroom of Found and Fixed, a worker-owned cooperative that reclaims and repairs wooden furniture. We saw and listened to the behind the scenes of running their business. One of the challenges they shared was retaining members due to the physical strain and low margins. This hasn’t deterred them from their mission of diverting furniture from the landfill, they will be working with a reuse center to discern what furniture can be upcycled and refurbished on a larger scale."

What Kerala’s Member-Owned Institutions Can Teach the World about Social Economics
"Informal MOIs, known as sanghas (collectives), along with mutual aid and self-help groups, have been at the core of women’s liberation across caste and class, with innovations such as rotating savings and credit associations (ROSCAs) known as panapayattu or kuri. We argue that localized membership institutions, especially informal MOIs, are at the root of the social and solidarity economy (SSE)—as the Kerala case shows."

In this study, we survey 1,214 members of Member-Owned Institutions (MOIs) in the state of Kerala, India. Kerala’s MOIs underline the value of citizen engagement and action to improve social provisioning and equity, making it a model for an inclusive economics of global importance.
