The left should change the argument. Complex systems like economies are difficult to predict. Any complex #consequentialist argument against #capitalism can be refuted by citing a lack of evidence that the proposed postcapitalist alternative produces better outcomes, and the risks of meddling. Rights-based theories avoid this critique. #Leftism must demonstrate that capitalism contradicts common sense principles of justice.
Mind you they DID have some insight! Things like:
Technically true from their perspective! as long as they don't mention or count externalities, which are driving our species and globe to ruin because humans use heuristics not cold logic. And what does this say about hype vs merits? What does this imply about VC-funded company valuations? But cults and idols are not based on truth or reality 🤔 externaaaaalities!the whole thing is depressing, I can't stop thinking about it. These people have power! People keep giving them money! Yet I know preschoolers with a better grasp of fundamentals!!!

"In this paper we introduce the Journal of Labor and Society’s special issue on the ecomodernist features of imperialism and argue that these concepts must be theorized in tandem. The introduction begins by showing how ecomodernism and imperialism combine in practice through the example of the Council of Foreign Relations’ ‘Climate Realism Initiative’. It then charts ecomodernism’s emergence as a distinct theory and practice, arguing that it can take capitalist and anti-capitalist forms, both of which reproduce imperialist mechanisms of accumulation on a world scale. The paper’s third section questions the anti-modernist critique of ecomodernism offered by the concepts of extractivism and green colonialism. We then develop what we consider a more precise and rigorously anti-imperialist critique of imperialism’s ecomodernist aspects before concluding with some political propositions about the necessity of what we call a ‘communist ecological critique’ and by summarizing the special issue’s contributions."

Speaking about AI one thing always struck me as odd regarding its "popularity" as compared to the simultaneously emerging 3D-printing. In the utopian fantasies that preceded both technologies, both seem to be equally egalitarian and liberating. But on a closer inspection we can see that one eliminates the necessity of labor, while the other eliminates the necessity for centralized production. And now guess which one the capitalists are more favorable towards?

Although I only met him once I'm still gutted this happened and I didn't keep in touch with him - we'd chatted about social media marketing and getting more pictures of work in progress online - but his shop always seemed busy , I felt awkward about randomly calling him or turning up there (if I didn't have any cars to actually be repaired) as it was taking up time that wouldn't be revenue generating and everyone in #automotive round here seems rushed off their feet, but I guess this shows how quickly ruthless #capitalism can turn a dream #career in to a nightmare (there seems to be less private work for #bodyshops and #insurers make them jump through many hoops for lower rates)
