So, if #GoatMilk isn't your thing, let's talk about #SoyMilk... A friend who is a #MOFGA-certified organic farmer and is #Vegan atttempted to grow soybeans in one of his fields. He said it was nearly impossible to grow them without pesticides, especially with #JapaneseBeetles here in #Maine. Sure, he used beetle traps, but a sex lure can only do so much -- beetles gotta eat! And as far as making one's own soy milk and tofu -- well, it takes almost a thousand soy beans to produce a small block of tofu (and if you do it right, you'll end up with some soy milk to drink). So, if you want to give it a go, I'd say try growing a dozen or so soybean plants, harvest the soybeans, then make your own tofu and soy milk (you'll probably just end up with one batch). And I'll tell you -- the stuff made from freshly grown, organic soybeans has a delightfully nutty taste that you don't get with most of the commercial stuff (I haven't found any that compares to the homemade stuff).
That being said, I will be posting about #GrowingSoybeans, #HarvestingSoybeans, and making #Tofu and #SoyMilk at home for a bit, before finishing up with articles about #HempCrete. Stay tuned...

i drink #soymilk, & use it on my #muesli & in my coffee. i like it.
recently i tried some #AlmondMilk bought for me by my sister. ugh, it is revoltingly sweet & i very much dislike it.
as i abhor food waste i shall finish the litre carton, not tip it out, but oh mighty zarquon will i be glad once it's finished!
last year i tried #oatmilk , in powdered form that one then makes up with water. also too sweet for me, but wow, only an amateur compared to this almondmilk!
Soy bean vs soy milk math:
- I buy 4 lbs (1.8 kg) of dried soy beans for US$6.99
- I use 4 oz (0.11 kg) of dried soy beans each time I make soy milk, with 32 oz of water (0.91 kg).
That gives me 20 oz (600 ml) of soy milk after straining through a cheesecloth or yogurt strainer.
That means my cost for making 20 oz of soy milk is $0.43, plus the cost of electricity for 30 min and water. And my time. After I got a soy milk maker, I make it much more easily.
I used to buy freshly made soy milk from a Vietnamese Chinese restaurant in the Tenderloin for US$12 a pint (16 oz). My mom freaked out and got me to learn how to make it myself. :)
I don't like soy milk that's sold in American grocery stores, especially the ones replacing dairy milk. They just don't taste right (or good) to me.
My #fish doesn't kill dolphins and contains no mercury.
My meat is grown, not killed.
#Veganism is not the brainchild of the mentally defected. It's the basic norm for a possible #future.
There is #NoFuture for meat and with meat (and fish)... other than mock meat and fish.
