La questione maranza, sempre più centrale nelle cronache d'Italia per i problemi legati alla sicurezza, arriva anche al Parlamento europeo dove è stato presentato il libro "Piumini e catene" scritto a quattro mani da Roberto Arditti e il vicedirettore de Il Tempo Alessio Gallicola.
Dodici storie di cronaca per viaggiare dentro al mondo dei maranza. "Abbiamo scattato la fotografia di un fenomeno sociale che ci preoccupa parecchio perché sappiamo che, se non affrontato, ci può travolgere - spiega Gallicola - I maranza non sono un'organizzazione mafiosa strutturata, ma un'onda fluida che rischia di travolgerci. Vogliamo dare un apporto a chi deve decidere".
Il fenomeno, prosegue Arditti, riguarda ragazzi di seconda e terza generazione appartenenti a famiglie "che sono arrivate in Italia e che si sono integrate" sebbene però "una piccola quota dei loro figli o nipoti si affida alla contestazione del sistema che sconfinano nella criminalità".
Il problema non riguarda solo l'Italia, incalza l'eurodeputato Ecr-FdI Carlo Fidanza, ma "è diventato un tema europeo su cui l'Europa deve confrontarsi perché chiama in causa la difesa dei confini da un modello di immigrazione incontrollato". E aggiunge: "L'Europa per troppo tempo ha abdicato ad avere un ruolo in questo e ha veicolato una mentalità lassista che purtroppo oggi paghiamo".

According to Arditti, the phenomenon concerns young people of the second and third generation belonging to families “that arrived in Italy and that integrated,” although “a small portion of their children or grandchildren rely on contesting the system that spills over into criminality.”
The problem is not limited to Italy, urges Ecr-FdI MEP Carlo Fidanza, but “has become a European issue that Europe must confront because it calls into question the defense of borders from an uncontrolled immigration model.” He adds: “Europe has for too long abdicated a role in this and has conveyed a complacent mentality that we unfortunately pay for today.”
