5 days to go (09.03.2026) and my automated nightly generation of hosts file reaches its first birthday. Though I have been doing it for 6+ years now (Feb 15, 2020), but this is now a big time achievement. Thanks to so many users and the motivation to continue. Thanks to #hectorm for I do use his script (#hblock), with few tweaks of mine.

I use #hblock script, tweaked to my liking. Being a non-dev does not always help to make things easier for me, and I rely on open source stuff, which is great as well. 😃

@LukaszHorodecki @linux_pl W sumie jak ten #hblock jest opakowany w #gnome #extension to czemu by nie instalować.

@LukaszHorodecki @linux_pl właśnie sobie czytałem #twig i powstał nowy #extension dla #gnome, właśnie umożliwiający użycie #hblock w quickmenu.

#189 Global Shortcuts

Update on what happened across the GNOME project in the week from February 21 to February 28.

@linux_pl Ktoś z was bawił się hBlockiem*? Jak to się sprawdza w porównaniu z uBlockiem (poza tym, że działa system-wide, a nie tylko w jednej przeglądarce)?

* „hBlock is a POSIX-compliant shell script that gets a list of domains that serve ads, tracking scripts and malware from multiple sources and creates a hosts file, among other formats, that prevents your system from connecting to them.”

@LoboTom Brilliant, never saw it from this perspective before.

I use hBlock, "hBlock is a POSIX-compliant shell script that gets a list of domains that serve ads, tracking scripts and malware from multiple sources and creates a hosts file, among other formats, that prevents your system from connecting to them," on all of my computers. It works well, but almost never too well. Last year, I recounted the story of one time where it did work too well -- when it rendered me unable to purchase a new health insurance plan (thanks to this post, I will remember to temporarily disable it this year).

hBlock Blocks NYS Insurance Exchange Site

My attempt to confirm my purchase of a health insurance plan from the New York State exchange hits a snag with the hBlock hosts blocker.
