5 days to go (09.03.2026) and my automated nightly generation of hosts file reaches its first birthday. I use hBlock, "hBlock is a POSIX-compliant shell script that gets a list of domains that serve ads, tracking scripts and malware from multiple sources and creates a hosts file, among other formats, that prevents your system from connecting to them," on all of my computers. It works well, but almost never too well. Last year, I recounted the story of one time where it did work too well -- when it rendered me unable to purchase a new health insurance plan (thanks to this post, I will remember to temporarily disable it this year).
