How to stop feeling pain and sorrow when my transfer request gets rejected
in 1990, i was in a record store and they were playing a marching band, #SantaClaraVanguard performing #PhantomOfTheOpera, recorded live from a football field
being neither a fan of marching bands, nor broadway musicals, i was nonetheless enthralled, asked if it was for sale, alas it was not
not long after i searched online and found their website with a note about the CD i was looking for, but I never actually found a copy
maybe 10-15 years ago, i did another online search, and came up empty
on a whim, i just now looked again and found the recording on SoundCloud, yay for me
but get this, a few weeks ago i deleted my SC account!
so just rejoined long enough to grab this 12 minute track and i'm gonna put it in my #soulseek public folder
musically, it's not as exciting or interesting as i thought it was back then, but i'm quite pleased with my perseverance in tracking this down
maybe i'll use it as source material for a #noise opera...
this is the internet i remember, and love

Gizmodo: File-Sharing Network Soulseek Has Been Flooded With AI Homer Simpson Cover Songs. “According to Vice, at least 2,000 songs uploaded to the platform currently feature vocals from Homer Simpson. The publication also warned that because of how Soulseek works—users who seed music can share directly from a folder, and lots of leechers download full directories of content—means that […]
https://rbfirehose.com/2026/02/27/gizmodo-file-sharing-network-soulseek-has-been-flooded-with-ai-homer-simpson-cover-songs/so apparently someone's fucking around with Soulseek and sharing music with AI-gen Homer Simpson vocals (but the metadata is still made to look like the legit song)
as of this article's publishing, there's at least 2,000 of these tracks floating around, and you'd have no idea you got one until you actually, you know, listened to it
they're also running a "radio station," 24/7, of this exact nonsense. nice use of our dwindling drinking water, jackasses. cool. awesome.

I knew that AI companies were scraping shadow libraries such as LibGen and Anna's Archive for their models. But I wasn't aware that they were also using the good old P2P network #Soulseek.
