These are two obvious failure modes.
I learned the hard way that words can be weapons.
(No trauma dump, you're good.)
Language is powerful.
Or as I like to say:
Language is load-bearing.
Words have real somatic impact.
They change nervous system state.
And yet tech treats it as.. vibes.
(Words make the body go brrr.)
What happens when language is treated with the same rigor as code?
When nervous system cost is not an abstract idea but part of the equation?
Which communicational failure modes become myths of the past?
(Static types for human language when?)
Imagine people asking:
"Why do you care about language so much?"
And the answer being:
"Because it works."
systemic.engineering explores what happens
when language stops being vibes
and is treated as infrastructure.
Because that's what language is:
The transport layer between divergent realities.
(Be they human or agentic.)

System Failures at Boundaries
Across institutions, engineering, biology, and physics, failure is often blamed on weak signals or insufficient effort. This piece looks instead at the structural conditions that make correction possible — or impossible.
Escalation often fails not because people don’t try hard enough, but because systems no longer admit the kind of change being attempted.

@FediTips
I wandered over here because the categorical server I joined was taken over by people with an agenda, and firm opinions on how everyone else should use the Fediverse. Also rude and threatening, and blocked this which had a half-dozen people I followed or vice versa.
Why did other people choose this server?
Encourage movement: promote specific interest groups.
We do need another photography server. Or three.
There also is no life and limb peril with the jobs they are pointing most AIs to. The failure modes are not immediately catastrophic if an image generator or chat bot makes a mistake.
That’s why they seem so focused on taking away creative jobs first: because the AIs being bad at them doesn’t seem directly dire.
#FailureModes is a devops meet-up to give a safe space to talk about failures.
I created a ICS calendar so you can get notified about the next one easily: https://failuremodes.dev/meetup.ics

Well, now that I've experienced every single failure mode of Google devices, I can die an angry man.
*blergh*
"Hmm... there was a glitch. Please try that again in a few seconds."

@samabuelsamid @pluralistic All the signs are that he's getting a crash (no pun intended) course in #failuremodes right now. I wonder if it will reshape his thinking?
Think of it as a $44B teachable moment ...
