I've seen the news reports. Google Search's AI got caught suggesting evidently stupid shit.

Google said they'd weed out the obviously stupid shit.

Okay, great. What I'm really concerned about is the shit that the AI produces, which is not *obviously* stupid to most people.

Is Google going to hire doctors, engineers, architects, lawyers, paleontologists, to read the output of its engine and weed out the stuff that is not *obviously* stupid to the common individual?

Okay, maybe someone knows what the fuck is going on.

I'm in Gmail. I'm editing a filter to add a forwarding address. I've been using this address with another filter without any issue.

However, when I edit my filter to add the forwarding address, Gmail says the filter was updated, but the forwarding address is not added to the filter.

I cleared the application data, as was suggested in many places. It did not work. I also tried in Chrome. (I generally use Firefox.) It did not work.

(I'm not aiming to change email providers. People answering with "just move to [so-and-so]" will be blocked.)

My boyfriend clued me in about a TikTok. In the TikTok, a man was looking at the translation of ingredients in a shampoo bottle from English to French.

The ingredient "soy protein" was translated to "je suis protéine."

I decided to see what Google Translate would do. I set the source language to Detect language and the translation language to French.

Right after I typed "soy," it switched to "Spanish - detected." It translated "soy protein" to "je suis une proteine."

I'll note, in passing, that "soy protein" is not proper Spanish. (I'm not saying it is impossible to say, but that people don't normally express themselves in this way in Spanish, whereas "soy protein" is quite normal in English.)

"Soy milk" gives "je suis du lait."

Ok, as a lark I asked Gemini to draw me as a catgirl, and I got the following result.

First. It does not know what I look like, and it did not ask for a picture of me. For the record, I don't look like that cat.

Second. This is not a catgirl. Do an internet search if you must. I tried DuckDuckGo and Google and, yes, they both immediately knew what a bloody catgirl is. I cannot fathom why this **AI** does not bloody know.

Gemini gets an "are you fucking kidding me" grade on this task, or an F if you are a fan of letter grades.

There was another picture, but it is stupider than this one. Just a cat with some sort of sneer, basically.

I have a moratorium on buying new Google devices. It is likely to continue.

So, I ran into trouble with my Google Chromecast with Google TV device a long time ago. For the longest time, the device was unable to load suggestions. I searched through Google Search, found people who had the same issue, and I came up with a solution that did not require me to get a new mortgage or sell myself for scientific research. This solution did not last, however. The bug game back, but I did not need the suggestions, so I let it be broken.
