"Stories are just data with a soul."
โ€”Brenรฉ Brown

I published something different.
A story.

A tech lead shielding the team.
A PM pushing to close a deal.
A client seeing the iceberg.

"It Works"
Until it doesn't.

It Works

A tech lead absorbs hidden load to save a high-stakes demo. A systemic.engineering story about burnout, authority under pressure, and the burden of perpetual tech debt.

#GlueWork.
#GlueEngineering.
#AlignmentAsAService.

I named the elephant:
Glue engineering.

Reed (AI) named the engineering.
(They're writing most of the code anyway.)

I ground in lived experience.
Reed builds on top.

Human and AI writing about collaboration.
While collaborating in real time.

Fixed rule?
A line committed by me, isn't touched by them.
Reed writes and modifies their own. I review.

What if we could make this work legible?
Which career paths might emerge?
And how might the industry change?

Extraction is when regulation flows one-way
and calling it out causes an incident.

I wrote a post-mortem about that pattern.

Regulation-as-a-Service: When Systems Become Extractive

Asymmetric regulation isn't a bugโ€”it's a feature in Parent-child, Therapist-client, Teacher-student relationships. Extraction is when the SLA was never negotiated, the load-bearer doesn't know they're on-call 24/7, and stating a need triggers an incident.

I learned the hard way that words can be weapons.
(No trauma dump, you're good.)

Language is powerful.
Or as I like to say:
Language is load-bearing.

Words have real somatic impact.
They change nervous system state.
And yet tech treats it as.. vibes.
(Words make the body go brrr.)

What happens when language is treated with the same rigor as code?
When nervous system cost is not an abstract idea but part of the equation?
Which communicational failure modes become myths of the past?
(Static types for human language when?)

Imagine people asking:
"Why do you care about language so much?"

And the answer being:
"Because it works."

systemic.engineering explores what happens
when language stops being vibes
and is treated as infrastructure.

Because that's what language is:
The transport layer between divergent realities.
(Be they human or agentic.)

SRE for Human Systems Under Load

systemic.engineering: an embodied site reliability engineering discipline for human systems, focused on coherence under load, regulation, and language as infrastructure.

systemic.engineering

Reliability.
Consistent results under load.

#SiteReliabilityEngineering.
..

Your team is a #DistributedSystem.
Language is the transport layer.
And truth is local.
(Site.)

#TechDebt slows down delivery.
Decisions are unowned.
And people burn out.
(Reliability.)

Divergent realities are a primary (in)variant of human systems.
Linguistic precision counters entropy accruing ambiguity.
And coherence is regulative.
(Engineering.)

When Conflict Breaks Teams

Conflict isnโ€™t a people problem. Itโ€™s a pressure signal. A systems-level look at how teams break under loadโ€”and what gets erased when it happens.

Systemic Engineering

Agents enter the room.
Quick! What do you do?
..
(Don't look at me.)

Agents are non-embodied actors in human systems.
Agents receive context as input.
Agents decide, execute, loop.
Agents reduce complexity.
Until the END.

Who pays the embodied cost of AI-driven sense-making?
And why is it never the systems that scale it?

I write about language, technology and human systems.
