`Through genome-wide CRISPR screening, we identified the RNA-binding protein DHX29 as a critical regulator of codon-dependent gene expression. Cryogenic electron microscopy and selective ribosome profiling demonstrated that DHX29 directly interacts with the A-site entrance of the translating 80S ribosome... These findings establish a mechanistic link between synonymous codon usage and the regulation of gene expression.`
this was the 1st peer-review paper i ever co-authored. truth be told, i was working in the same lab as the lead author, and contributed almost nothing to the manuscript, or the concept behind it! the lead author had already left the lab, and i never met him. but, i was still part of the team, and i learned a lot by helping them with the revisions needed to get this published. also, it's a pretty cool finding even 25 years later! #biology #evolution #codon #genetics
