Most-often when a toaster has a 'cancel' button it's simply labelled 'cancel', 'stop', or with a cross. But this week, I discovered a toaster that uses the 'eject' icon - like you'd find on a VHS tape recorder - on its button.
At first I thought this was an unusual user interface choice, but I'm coming around to it. It feels like a more-accurate and skeuomorphic representation of what actually happens than a cross suggests.
But the existence of toasters like this one does necessarily mean that, some day, some Gen Alpha will see a tape deck in, like, a museum or something, and will say 'hey, that's cute: the button you press to pop the tape out is the same as the one you use to pop your toast out'.

The Settings GUI in #konform #browser was in need of some love and is now having a refresh. Several new knobs, some shuffling around to make things more cohesive and less scattered, and some edits of hints to hopefully reduce potential for confusion.
New options for:
- First-Party Isolation
- Enhanced #tracking Protection tweaking in Custom mode (useful mostly for FPI users)
- #webrtc and ICE
- #dom Push and its optional network connection
- #jit features
- WebAssembly (#wasm)
- Geolocation
- WebGPU
- Async callstacks support
- Persisting of browser history
Hints and the "advanced" options expand when clicking the "?" for parent option.
Still a bit hesitant on where global toggles for #webgpu and #webgl belong. And perhaps configuration for cross-origin referrer could also move to Browser Privacy controls?
Otherwise feels like things are coming together - What do you think? Anything you're missing or that feels out of place?

Shipping mobile updates is a bottleneck: app store reviews, slow user updates, multiple versions in the wild.
#Nubank flipped the model with Catalyst - a scripted Server-Driven UI (#SDUI) framework that ships more than just layouts.
3,000+ engineers can now deploy UI changes and complex business logic to 115M+ users in under 20 minutes.
🚫 No app store update required.

Tip #801
Enable automatic hiding of the browser’s user interface.
Automatically hiding the browser’s toolbars gives all the available space in the Vivaldi window to the page content. Whether the window is maximized or not. It’s great for those browsing on smaller screens and those, who prefer a more minimalist, distraction free experience.
To toggle Auto-hide on and off, use one of the following methods:

Teaching AI Ethics
Update: since I wrote this original post covering the nine areas, I've expanded each one into a complete article. Have a read through this post, and then when you're ready to dive deeper into AI ethics, check out the full series here. If you linked to this post as part of a course or university resource, I suggest updating your links with the complete series. https://leonfurze.com/ai-ethics/ As we head into the start of Term 1 it's already looking like Artificial Intelligence is going to be […]Are We Finally At The Point Where Phones Can Replace Computers?
