I fully believe it. National Autistic Society is alright, but fuck, ‘Adult Social Care’ teams in the councils are anything but. I get the defunding, I get the shit working conditions, and jfc I GET the dumb ass order from on high, I really do.
But the ‘enablement’ or ‘AccessAbility’ — or whatever tf the next BS terror-of-acknowledging disablement term is — staff need to see us as actual goddamn humans.
If I’m near fainting standing up after recent covid and need help cleaning the house,
repeatedly telling me in simpler and simpler terms that “I need to clean up bits of food or else little critters will come” does not help.
“Can you help me find a local cleaner?” Is both a very simple question and a very clear indication of my intent for contacting them.
Yet, somehow, 2 grown, allegedly capable ‘professional’ adults refused to accept that they could go outside their remit for two fucking seconds to save us all like 5 hours of useless fucking meetings and reviews and “let’s reassess priorities”.
