"A military- and police-centered ideology teaches us to look for safety outside ourselves. If something is wrong, we call a cop, a parent, a teacher, or some other authority figure, rather than trying to sort it out ourselves and with peers. Using hierarchies to find safety, especially hierarchies that create and maintain illegitimate authority, is futile.

Hierarchies based in illegitimate authority are the cause of all the most dangerous things - pollution, poverty, sexual violence, war, etc. Everywhere, I see this pattern of authority-seeking, even among people who want to get rid of police and militaries. When we are emotionally stirred and in conflict, we often want others to see that we are right.

Even if we don't turn to official authority figures, many of us gossip or cancel or drag people on social media because we feel like we'll be safe if and when other people take our side. Or we want an outside facilitator or mediator to become a judge and declare us "in the right", and we are unsatisfied if they won't take on that role. We've been conditioned to look for safety outside."

Elon Musk Discovers What Hierarchy Actually Means

Elon Musk is having a very bad week. The man who bought Twitter for $44 billion to secure unaccountable power over public discourse is discovering what unaccountable power actually looks like …

@herrleon #locktober25 is going so well since I found a tiny cage that fits, and my place at the bottom of the #hierarchy

@AstroMancer5G

Bummed that I can't quote this, as I wanted to contribute.

Agree. 💯

And maybe there's another point here, that religious folk want these benefits to ONLY come from religion so they'll block the work to provide these to everyone. "Social policies don't work!" "Non-profits can do that!"

But do they? Are they actually effective at providing the services? Or do they function as marketing with a small side-benefit?

#positive #OrganizedReligion #religion #failures #secular #organize #space #philosophical #discussion #collective #emotional #healing #childcare #BasicNeeds #intergenerational #community #traditions #existence #working #money #church #hierarchy #priority #atheist #movement

Many of the #positive aspects of #OrganizedReligion are not so much positives of #religion as much as #failures of #secular spaces.

We can #organize #space for deep #philosophical #discussion, #collective #emotional #healing, providing #childcare, meeting #BasicNeeds, finding #intergenerational #community, keeping #traditions, and allowing #existence without #working or spending #money, all outside of the #church and its inherent #hierarchy.

It should be a #priority for the #atheist #movement.

Conservatism is the Fight For Hierarchy

Conservatism is the fight for hierarchy... The Right seeks to preserve or expand the privileges of those at the top of existing hierarchies of power

Wait. Calling someone an ethnic slur because of their political stance is wrong after all? I can’t keep up [VIDEO]

more than wanting free speech protected, I want consistency, and that is precisely what we do not have. Events on Saturday in London gave us a prime example of this
