I lately got the impression that a lot of neurodivergent, especially AuDHD people struggle with their mental health during spring time.

So while the neurotypicals talk about autism awareness, ask about your plans for the holidays and tell you to enjoy the beautiful, sunny day, I am not only very much reminded of the fact that other people have a life outside of their apartment, the local graveyard and Mastodon, there are also a lot of other aspects that make springtime difficult for me.

The change in light and temperature is difficult for my body to cope with and contributes to my AuDHD inner unrest, hyperactivity and impulsivity. So if you saw me posting and deleting more texts than usual, that's just the tip of the iceberg.

The light and warmth do give me an energy boost that my routines aren't made for, which makes me question myself and creates the need for change. Change isn't easy and I often run out of energy before I can finish a project which creates a lot of frustration.

Not only are the bright light and the weather the reason for sensory overload itself, but during spring a lot of people and their outside activities contribute to it. Lawn mowers and barbecue parties are just two of many examples. Feel free to rant about the ones the NTs torture you with in the comments.

So know that you are not the only one struggling right now and that it's perfectly fine to stick to your routines, protect yourself from sensory overload, that you don't have to feel guilty for not enjoying every bright sunny day and that you are not a failure if you don't take part in barbecue parties.

Your impulse to cut back on things has been spot on. But it matters what you're cutting back on.

Cutting back on work hours, without changing the actual conditions of your work, doesn't make as much difference as you'd hope. 1/3

@pathfinder @AoifeGreenhamIllustrations Absolutley. I’ll also add, from my perspective, if there’s a gap between different tasks/appointments my timeblindness leads to either starting something that can never be finished in the available time, or more usually (particularly of late) not doing anything in the available time, which can stretch into a couple of hours.

Having things cancelled, and therefore freeing up a block of time, should give me more time to do other stuff; drawing or admin or housework or *something*. But invariably I find it super hard to program something else in to the slot as a replacement. It wasn't in the original manifest! So I go to a limbo *tea and stare on the couch* place. Hmm, will try to rewrite the manifest with a bit more deliberation.

I think that A LOT about other people, esp my wife. They just don't seem to think about what they're doing. All day, every day.

Simple things, like putting a mug back down after drinking from it. Is it too close to the edge? Is it where the cat is likely to jump up? Am I going to knock it when I move?

Because my #AuDHD head thinks about all of those things all the time.

Of course I would be taking the wrong bus and end up in another town.

That is why I took the whole morning off just to do this one thing.

ah, there's another memory getting audited for Autism - Dad's this time.
.
My sib would do something hyperactive, break something and Dad would start in on them for it, and they would start to say, "I didn't think (something)," and Dad would cut them off with, "That's right, you DON'T think (like, period)," and it's still rather shit of Dad, but boy oh boy, don't I, maybe don't we, think that about people sometimes, don't you people ever stop and think, LOL.
.
I mean, that's what CBT says too.
