Today's historic photo of the day: Exactly 40 years ago today, 42109, running no 2 end first, hauls the northbound Cooma Mail into Queanbeyan, NSW, February 15 1986.

The Cooma Mail was a passenger #train connecting Cooma with Sydney via Queanbeyan and Goulburn. Named the 'Mail' because in earlier days it did in fact carry mail, by the 1980s it ran as a purely passenger train, four nights per week from Sydney overnight to Cooma then returning in daylight the following day on the northbound leg.
