How the Right Is Waging War on Climate-Conscious Investing

A Leonard Leo–funded effort to destroy ESG has scared off much of corporate America.

Hey tech folk,

I've got an 'early 2013' MacBook Pro I've been happy with for years, but now I'm seeing Signal won't run on Catalina - it wants Big Sur.

I hate tech waste; bugs the crap out of me.

Looks like I can either try something like OpenCore Legacy Patcher to fool an update to Big Sur or take a first real dive into the Linux world.

Votes & thoughts appreciated, with thanks!

A boost if you have tech friends also appreciated.

82-year old Chilean, granted permanent legal residency (political asylum) by the US in 1987.

Lost his “green card”. While getting it replaced, ICE snatched him. Family couldn’t find out where he was, thought he was dead. Then they were told he was dead (anonymously? - unclear)

Instead, he had been deported. Not to Chile. To Guatemala. He’s now in a hospital there.

His fate depends on the whims of the people who sent him, people immune to the law.

@dangillmor The #NYTimes has officially become its own parody.

Piece of shit Trump goes ape on dogs.

'The upshot is that an octogenarian Air Force retiree who spent half a century in his nation’s service was not allowed to attend a party for a dog he essentially donated to the government and named after his dead wife.'

What a lump of garbage this president is, what a shrivelled little desiccated, infantile old man.

In Glasgow 64 year old Sean Clerkin has been charged under the Terrorism Act for holding a placard reading "Genocide in Palestine, Time to Take Action".

He's effectively banned from the city centre until his court date.

UK courts are slowly filling with groups of these elderly, peaceful "terrorists", making a mockery of the law.

@BobLefridge interesting that this happened in Nelson Mandela Place.
How did Nelson Mandela protest?

@umbeebmu @BobLefridge

Top bloke!

We need to fill the battleground "kid starver" (& Tory tony! Who pulls his strings!) thought was their territory!

The courts!

& All insisting a full jury trial!

@umbeebmu @BobLefridge

Mandela and the ANC were labelled terrorists by the British state during the anti apartheid struggle. Back then the UK sold weapons to the apartheid South African regime. Today they are selling them to the genocidal Israeli regime

@naefool The UK makes a habit of supporting genocide and apartheid, don't they? Thatcher loved murderous dictator Augusto Pinochet, no wonder 'Starlin Starmer' loves murderous dictator Benjamin Netanyahu

@umbeebmu @BobLefridge The story of how Nelson Mandela Place in Glasgow got its name is great! It was specifically chosen because the apartheid South African consulate was located there at the time. 😁

@BobLefridge The courts are going to be busy for a long time when it comes to the cases going back to court for any conviction to be overturned once a really grown up gets into power. I'm so disgusted by this Government that I voted for in the hope of decency.
#Mastodon #Fediverse #ukpolitics
@BobLefridge If they can do it with protests like these, they can do it with any protest. Democracy dies.
@helma @BobLefridge according the our Dutch constitution, demonstration can be forbitten "in the interests of the traffic" which most peaceful protests are, like whére would you protest otherwise!? On the streets right?

@feike @helma @BobLefridge

They have that in England too. Long prison sentences for talking about it.

@feike @helma @BobLefridge Except you are a farmer on the snelweg? /s
@bjo @feike @BobLefridge Or town square kicking down doors of the city hallo with your apparatus
@BobLefridge The police in Glasgow are absolutely corrupt too, one of the reasons I left that city just over a year ago. I was repeatedly assaulted, threatened, and even hit by the car of the same business owner and for some reason despite all the video evidence nothing was ever done about it. 🤷‍♂️ Absolute Stasi. 😒

@BobLefridge

How ridiculous; current UK govt making themselves a laughing stock! & what an extravagant waste of time & money:
'In Glasgow 64 year old Sean Clerkin has been charged under the Terrorism Act for holding a placard reading "Genocide in Palestine, Time to Take Action".' 😐
Thanks for alerting us to this ludicrous situation.

#UKPol #protest

@BobLefridge the arresting officer wearing uniform and yellow safety vest is visibly struggling to read and comprehend the text.

The words Palestine and Action are in a separate line. Action is in red.

#ALT4you

@iwein @BobLefridge

Clearly he is a thoughtcriminal

@BobLefridge You, in the UK, also need placards with this text. Do not blindley obey orders. WWII - Nuremburg.
@BobLefridge Meanwhile, the UK courts can't cope with the back log of real criminal cases murder, rape, assault, fraud, etc. Yet the police harass peaceful protesters who condemn genocide. Probably, charges will never be brought and if they are juries won't convict. The intention of the police is clearly to intimidate protest. Well this pensioner will continue to protest the genocide at every week.

@naefool @BobLefridge
Merely arresting, with little hope of conviction or even needing to charge is a powerful dissent suppressor. Your house gets raided and your devices disappear, for at least months and you get labeled a terrorist.

I have only briefly been detained for political reasons under Labour authoritarian legislation and it was not pleasant

@BobLefridge those cops should be named and shamed. Put so much fear and embarrassment into their lives that they will be forced to step away. They are enemies of your state and will not be on your side in years to come.
@BobLefridge "freedom of speech and expression" and all that, or did he do something wrong? Like ignoring a areal prohibition, or whatever it's called in English
@feike Nah! Even a dopey copper can read big letters like that, from a few metres away.
They'll say he is supporting Palestine Action...which he can deny. @BobLefridge

@Tooden @BobLefridge so support for palistine action is a crime!?

I haven't red the UK's civil code of crimes, so, you can tell me anything…

@Tooden @BobLefridge i mean the Dutch gouverment is officially 'befriended' with every head-of-state of the countries which it is not in war with, so, i find that to be support for both Russia, Israel, and Palestine.
@feike @Tooden @BobLefridge Palestine Action is a protest group who have been proscribed in the same way as a terrorist organisation so any show of support for them is against the law, this also means any protest against what is happening in Gaza can easily be deemed support for a proscribed group and so an arrestable offence

@wolfie @Tooden @BobLefridge aha, i did not know, thanks

Bit strange though, howcome one cant share their opinion that they are in favour of an organisation. One can say, for example, to endorse North Korea, without legal consequences.

As long as one is not recruiting people, or giving such organization money, it should be allowed, i think.

@feike @Tooden @BobLefridge yeah a lot of rights have been eroded under the guise of defending us against terrorism in the last 25 years
@wolfie @Tooden @BobLefridge 11 September 2001 you mean?
@feike @Tooden @BobLefridge that definitely was a big reason yeah, though the law that the uk government uses to proscribe organisations it deems terrorist organisations is actually from 2000
@feike @wolfie @Tooden @BobLefridge Palestine Action have officially been designated as a terrorist group. Expressing support for terrorism can get you 14 years in prison.
@feike @Tooden @BobLefridge Palestine Action is the name of an organisation that has recently been prescribed as a terrorist organisation under UK law, after they spray painted the engines of an RAF plane as a form of direct action protest.
@damien @Tooden @BobLefridge the Dutch equivalent would be forbidding #ExtinctionRebellion, which some voices in the #SecondChamber want to do actually.
@BobLefridge also in the UK you cant appealantly offend anyone, even though that is against #EVRM or whatever the English abbreviation is.
@BobLefridge I thought the prisons were all full. Yet they can still find space for protestors, or those who don't have a TV licence

@BobLefridge Sean Clerkin is a publicity seeking twat

The whole of the operation branchform hit job on the SNP is based on his complaint

He does this regularly and has convictions for wasting police time

@BobLefridge Meanwhile the corner of Spain we're currently at is full with Palestinian flags. Maybe it takes a place that knew brutal oppression and cultural genocide to know both when it sees them.

@Giliell @BobLefridge

Scotland knows - A third of the country is empty for a reason

@BobLefridge

The judiciary in many countries is just a silly laughing stock. It no longer has anything to do with justice. A war criminal like Netanyahu, who is accused of crimes against humanity and genocide, is held up as a statesman everywhere and a senior citizen who demonstrates peacefully against an injustice becomes a terrorist.

#UKPol
#Genocide #HumanRights #CriminalJustice

@BobLefridge

This stuff is just one of several really embarrassing reasons why UK is currently on my "HELL NO" list for all kinds of trips and visits

I doubt I'm the only one staying the fuck away from regimes like this

It's not personal
It's human right

@BobLefridge

They say cops work in pairs because one of them can read, and the other write.

I guess the one in the picture is the one with the rule book.

@iju @BobLefridge

Traditionally you needed a third to keep an eye on the two dangerous intellectuals.

@BobLefridge “I will abide by it but I think it is draconian and we are on the way to a politicised police state.”

Under LABOUR. So called 'party of the people'. Let that sink in.
Support Corbyn. Remove this fascist scum.

@BobLefridge

ACAB know your enemy they walk among us

@dbdean

@BobLefridge

If govts are going to charge people for terrorism and murder for just protesting, then there's no reason not to escalate the activism to something more jail-worthy. If you're going to prison anyway, may as well make it worth your while.

@BobLefridge

Why is such a dangerous "terrorist" allowed to walk free in other places?

Abuse of the term terrorism is deeply offensive to those who know the hard way what terrorism is.
#authoritarian

@BobLefridge I love Glasgow 💚 🤍

Wouldn't it be terrific if *thousands* of people convened at the same time with similar placards? Just spitballin' here...

@BobLefridge So I guess there's no such thing as "free speech" in the UK, then.

(honestly I don't know; I can't say I'm familiar with UK law on basic human rights)

@BobLefridge

You have to understand, what's pictured here is isn't terrorism, but a pacifist senior wearing a placard in protest against it is...

#genocide

@BobLefridge Cop looks to be sounding out a word.
@BobLefridge
This is just so wing on so many levels. There is the right to protest.
And why would any police officer be willing to arrest someone that is trying to stop a genocide?
@BobLefridge
Just to be clear, a placard reading "Genocide in Palestine, Time to Take Action" isn't illegal, but they're arresting him on the basis that it's a kind of stealth placard for a group called "Palestine Action", i.e. that it comes down to font sizes?
@BobLefridge he clearly looks like a dangerous criminal!
