“Protecting your electronic devices and digital assets before, during, and after a #protest is vital to keeping yourself and your information safe, as well as getting your message out. Theft, damage, confiscation, or forced deletion of media can disrupt your ability to publish your experiences. At the same time, those engaging in protest may be subject to search or arrest, or have their movements and associations surveilled.”
For quick reference, we've created a handy guide designed to be printed, folded, and carried in your pocket (PDF download). Now, more than ever, citizens must be able to hold those in power accountable and inspire others through the act of protest. Protecting your electronic devices and digital assets before, during,...

However, police and other government officials are allowed to place certain narrow restrictions on the exercise of speech rights. Make sure you’re prepared by brushing up on your #rights before heading out into the streets.”

On the subject of #protest: Unlike many on the Fediverse, I do not consider myself an #activist, rather I’m more of a person who cares FAR more than is healthy. That alone should be enough —that I have to practice #selfcare through #detachment— to keep me away from activism, for what good is protest when my own health (physical and mental), or lack thereof, is the most familiar form of oppression I experience.
My continued existence as a living being on this planet is itself a form of involuntary protest, and it takes up all of my time, my energy, and (if you’ll pardon the colloquialism) all of my “give-a-shits”. I’m sorry to all those out there who will be protesting for us people who won’t (or can’t), but I don’t believe that I can help save a nation from itself.
That’s partly because I don’t believe in nations; I believe in people, and I believe in the power of now. But the now doesn’t always call for action, and hopefully you’ll know when it does for you; I’ll know when it does for me, but this ain’t it. Sometimes understanding what is out of your control isn’t a cop-out, but wisdom.
And this old aching body is tired of acting unwisely. I’ve been a rebel my whole life, but what good is spending one’s efforts raging against a machine that by its very nature inevitably brings about its own unmaking? I shall not be party to either side of a war between activists, whether they be right and left, or top and bottom.
Activism got us to this place of delusions of division; more activism will not get us out of it. The absolute best it will do is simply kick the can down the road. How can America save America from men who are products of America themselves? Only with acceptance of #nonduality, the knowledge that seemingly extreme opposites are two sides of the same coin—necessary and complementary partners in the dance of life, the two as one— can we, as a whole, ever hope to attain the wisdom that our societies so desperately lack, and need. And make no mistake, wisdom is what is needed in times like these.
Thank you for your time and patience in humoring this silly old fool. 🙏
Zen priest, Peter Coyote, on protest: "
1. Let women organize the event. They’re more collaborative. They’re more inclusive, and they don’t generally bring the undertones of violence men do.
2 Appoint monitors, give them yellow, vests and whistles. At the first sign of violence, they blow the whistles and the real protester sit down.
Let the police take out their aggression on the anarchists and the provocateurs trying to discredit the movement.
3. Dress like you’re going to church. It’s hard to be painted as a hoodlum when you’re dressed in clean, presentable clothes.
They don’t have to be fancy they just signal the respect for the occasion that you want to transmit to the audience.
4. Make your protest silent. Demonstrate your discipline to the American people. Let signs do the talking.
5. Go home at night. In the dark, you can’t tell the cops from the killers. Come back at dawn fresh and rested.
