Heart of stone

The march of arches through a church
of Gothic spires and peaks:
Processions of stone columns perched
above where whispers speak.

I sit in silence and look up high
at its vaults and ceilings carved.
The church itself is walking by,
its rock alive and charged.

The masses flow through passageways
and enter and depart.
Their footsteps tap a rhythmic sway:
the church’s beating heart.

Zeeland Bridge

The longest bridge in the Netherlands (5022m) can be found in the Zeeland province. Hence its not very original name. Long ago, this used to be a toll bridge. After the construction loan was repaid with the toll that was charged for almost 25 years, though, passing the bridge became free of charge.
