Arches sang a rhythm
now broken by the cracks:
stones are split, and with them,
the roof begins to slack.

Old mortar of the stones
with long-supporting beat
falls silent with a groan.
The arcade sounds defeat —

Two are torn asunder.
Why, they both will wonder.
