In my current road engine, the curving of the road and hills go at a different rate than the objects and scrolling. The curving is made to be linear so it doesn’t snap too much. This means changes to the road or side textures can’t be on that same system. Instead, I create an invisible dummy object and the texture changes when that is hit during render. #pseudo3d #outrun
Playing with the curves in #pseudo3d road engines is like mixing: You spend hours playing with functions and at the end of it, it's only slightly different from where it was when you started. S-curves and hills look slightly better now (curves are now exaggerated in the distance using easily-adjusted piecewise bitshifts).
