2026 Frikkin Lasers Contest: Steampunk, 360 O-Scope Does It With Tubes

Audiophiles all know everything sounds better fed through vacuum tubes, but did you know visualizers look better with them, too? That’s what we’re forced to conclude looking at the Tach…

Live from the moon! How lasers connected us all to NASA's Artemis 2 astronauts on their epic lunar trip

A laser system, previously tested on board the International Space Station, helped to stream video directly from the Artemis 2 mission on its way around the moon.

Weekend Reading from TechAptitude!

One of our most popular posts - LASERS in SPACE! :-)

U.S. Space Force is deploying space based optical/laser communications as the primary network/data transport layer for its Proliferated Warfighter Space Architecture (PWSA).

UK Military getting into the Lasers in space game!

Britain is testing new high-speed infra-red laser based optical satellite links for its armed forces. The ground station, developed by UK firm Archangel Lightworks, is ~ a meter tall and 0.7 m in diameter and can transmit and receive data at up to 10 Gbps, and could in future scale to terabit-per-second (Tbps). https://www.theregister.com/networks/2026/05/27/uk-armed-forces-aims-for-secure-comms-via-optical-satellite-links/5246994

The U.S. Space Force is actively deploying its all Optical Proliferated Warfighter Space Architecture (PWSA) β€” a large, resilient, Low-Earth Orbit (LEO) mesh network of hundreds of satellites to provide low-latency communication and surveillance. Lasers at the Lunar Poles Could Help Astronauts Navigate

A team of scientists is exploring ways to use dark craters at the lunar poles as sites for ultrastable lasers to aid in surface and near-lunar navigation. The group, led by Physicist Jun Ye, an expert...
