Monks sleeping inside the temple north of Houston were awoken by the commotion and able to quickly put out the fire. According to court documents, four people were inside at the time.

More than 3,300 people are homeless in the Houston area in 2025, according to newly released figures

During the annual point-in-time count by the Coalition for the Homeless, nearly 1,300 people slept on Houston-area streets and more than 2,000 stayed in shelters. The figure marks a slight increase from 2024, when just under 3,300 people were counted as homeless.
