Houston Texans’ Jimmie Ward removed from NFL’s exempt list after grand jury declines to indict him

He was arrested this summer in Magnolia on a felony charge of assaulting a family member after a woman called authorities to say that he strangled and threatened her, according to police records. The woman also has filed a civil lawsuit against Ward seeking $20 million in damages.

Ward, 34, was arrested by the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office in June and charged with assault family violence impeding breath/circulation, a third-degree felony, in the aftermath of one of the alleged assaults. The criminal case is pending.

Ward has played 11 seasons in the NFL and two with the Texans. A team spokesperson said Thursday the Texans were aware of the arrest and were gathering information.
