Every week, I compile the “official unofficial” list of tech, entrepreneur, and nerd events happening in and around Tampa Bay.

Here’s this week’s list, which I publish on my personal tech blog (and Tampa Bay’s tech blog), Global Nerdy!

Montreal came back from Tampa having won 1 of 2 games. The stage is now set for them to play at home, in the Bell Center. Home ice advantage is definitely a thing when it comes to this building. Plus, perhaps MSL will match Suzuki against other players than Cirelli. Either way, the top line has to participate in the scoring. They also need to stop playing the game Tampa wants them to and get up to speed. They are the faster team and need to spend more time in the O zone and put more shots on goal (none in OT in the previous game).

The Lightning knew they absolutely had to have this one, and they played like it.

Montreal leads the series 1-0 after a tightly contested game in Tampa ending in overtime. Nick Suzuki had over 71% faceoff wins. The only player who. had a better percentage was Alexandre Texier at 100%, but he only played 10 minutes and had one faceoff. The FO performance of Montreal is reflected in the chart above, and while their offensive zone starts was slightly below Tampa, their FO performance did offset that.

Call of the Wilde: Montreal Canadiens shock the Tampa Bay Lightning in Game 1
When the Montreal Canadiens made the playoffs last season, it was a shock. This season, the Canadiens finished sixth in the entire NHL. They have a feeling that they belong now.
