Mum update - remains unwell, seems to be settling into the routine of the new place, has had a few friends visit and has had her hair done, which she was pleased with.

The bureaucratic process of gaining access under power of attorney is simpler with some organisations (Barclays) than others (Yorkshire Building Society & NS&I) But is rather gruelling.
