David Skaith, Mayor of #York and North #Yorkshire, has been nominated as co-chair of #Transport for the North (TfN) alongside Councillor Louise Gittins, Leader of Cheshire West and #Chester Council. The pair were backed by the TfN Board on 16 March 2026 and will serve in the role on an interim basis until the organisation’s annual general meeting in June.

TfN brings together 11 combined authorities, businesses and delivery partners to coordinate transport priorities across the North. The co-chair arrangement is intended to support collaborative leadership across the region.

TfN said the coming year would be pivotal as it continues an organisational reset, reflecting changes such as devolution and the creation of Great British Railways. A new business plan for 2026/27 is expected shortly.

Skaith’s role is seen as helping ensure local priorities are represented in wider strategic decisions on transport, investment and connectivity.
