Pomegranate Pirate 🏳️🌈🏴☠️A friend of mine is in a really horrible place, advocating for her fellow roommates at a place in Lancaster, CA. There care is bad. The stuff she hears from other rooms, how her roommate. With dementia is treated, lack of prompt hygiene care, unclean rags-not wipes, even how they mop the floor. It's fucking abysmal.
On top of that the AC is out in her room, she had to fight to keep her own fan as there is a a no fans allowed policy(!?). WTF. It's 100 degrees down there.
I am proud of her for calling the health department, and recording with her phone situations that she overhears. Really, really, really bad. This is what happens to those in need of care at the bottom of the barrel. Those without family, money, privilege. This is our future as we age.
She is waiting transfer to hospice elsewhere. FYI we have a bed shortage in care facilities and hospices. Insane right?

My advice, if you want to live in your own home in your golden years and beyond, pick a place that's physically near whatever you need on a daily basis. Or at least, walking distance from what's important to you. Even a wonderful house can become a trap if you can't leave it on your own volition.
