My wife has been turned down for Disabled Student Allowance transport to university on the grounds that it takes longer than 75 minutes by public transport (waiting time accounts for a large percentage of this). I can’t help thinking that someone in London thought public transport was a good measure of potential journey time because it isn’t around here. #disability #DisabledRights #disabledstudent #disabledstudentallowance

Juggling full time higher education with a disability/chronic illness is a struggle, in and of itself. And in the experience I've had, as much as individuals try to help to make it possible for you to continue to study, the institutions themselves make it really bloody hard. Harder than it should be, really. I had naively thought that the pandemic and moving everything online would help make things more accessible. If anything, it has somehow made it worse, as institutions now seemed to really dig their feet at the idea of providing online access instead of face-to-face.

“Organisations that represent disabled students have made it clear that continued online provision is crucial, with many students requesting the same. ‘I’d like the option for remote learning to still be given to students who ask for it,’ said one student”

Hi everyone. I am looking for some advice. I am blind and am currently studying a degree in Inclusive education. I would like to do part of my placement/work experience abroad, preferably in Canada or the UK. Are there any disability or student groups that I could get in touch with or are there any tips or advice people would have? If this could be boosted I would really appreciate it. Thank you. #Disability #DisabledStudent #StudyAbroad #Erasmus #Blind #Canada #UK
I've got 25 contact hours to get to at uni this week,, huge 6+ hours back to back with no breaks, all in different buildings.. Fatigue levels are awful today and being sat at a desk so long has made all my pain worse. I'm a week in and I already don't think I can manage it. Being a #DisabledStudent is hard work, especially without much support or people with shared experience around 🙃

I liked this. Has lots of ideas (though only some would likely be instigated in any one case).

Authors are from the US but many/most of the ideas would translate elsewhere

Also useful for other chronic illnesses

I spent spoons i didn't have today decorating the living room and tree in the kitchen. It was worth the pain. Hoping I sleep tonight as the last few nights I've been awake til the wee small hours the last few nights with eyes watering from the pain (I refuse to say crying as it's not an emotional reaction). I have that creeping end of semester stress. #MatureStudent #DisabledStudent #ChronicPain #ChronicFatigue #fibromyalgia #hypermobility #Scoliosis #arthritis #AutoImmune #spoonie
