Situation: I’ve been eating exclusively non-iodized sea salt for 4 years, after noticing that iodized table salt was causing or exacerbating histamine overload.

My latest blood test shows signs of hypothyroidism. Doctor wants to give me an iodine supplement. I suggested I try small amounts of iodized table salt first, knowing that the supplement my doctor recommends also contains several fillers I often react to.

But even just a two pinches of iodized table salt, twice a day, is causing a dramatic mast cell activation/histamine overload reaction (headaches, itchy skin and eyes, racing heart, bloating, bowel cramping and diarrhea, nausea, racing unwanted thoughts, sleeplessness, sneezing, sore throat, worsening of existing bladder issues like pain and urgency and frequent peeing, increase in perceived neuropathic pain). These histamine reactions are then triggering hormonal fluctuations and hot flashes, which are then in turn causing post-exertional malaise (PEM). All that from a few pinches of salt.

So my question is for others who have thyroid issues and also MCAS or histamine related issues: how do you maintain healthy iodine levels without causing a release of too much histamine in your body?

Doctors been telling me nothing is wrong for a year. I just went to the GP and turns out I didnt notice I had Gastroenteritis because the symptoms were basically the same as my regular flares barring one.
