Released on this day in 1966, Dylan's "Blonde on Blonde". The initial installment in the Nashville Trilogy. The best rock album ever made? Ok, sure. Rock's first double album. A genuine milestone. "Visions of Johanna" just one of Dylan's masterpieces but a real damn good one. "One of Us Must Know (Sooner or Later)", the way he sings "I really did try to get close to you". Bob Johnston at the helm.

Originally recorded in New York with The Hawks and numerous backing musicians, only one song stood out.

Hey, it's the two-timing dentist from "Freaks and Geeks"! #Moonlighting #BlondeOnBlonde
"Just Like a Woman" is a song by the American singer-songwriter #BobDylan from his seventh studio album, #BlondeOnBlonde (1966). The song was written by Dylan and produced by #BobJohnston. Dylan allegedly wrote it on #ThanksgivingDay in 1965, though some biographers doubt this, concluding that he most likely improvised the lyrics in the studio. Dylan recorded the song at #ColumbiaStudio A in Nashville, Tennessee in March 1966.

BOB DYLAN
Blonde On Blonde
1970s Canada 2xLP reissue

A little Saturday morning Bob, as per my teenage son’s request, as we eat apple pancakes for breakfast.

My boy has become quite enamoured with Mr. Zimmerman, but only up until Infidels, and then only Oh Mercy and Time Out Of Mind after that.

Blonde On Blonde is an album I find to be a song or two too long, but great regardless. It’s just a classic, early morning riser weekend record.

Interesting fact about Blonde on Blonde:
The initial Canadian pressing contains an early mix of the album which was subsequently NOT used for the American "original" edition. It is distinctly different than the American release, but then again, there are an INSANE amount of different mixes of this record.

"Dylan's "Blonde on Blonde" released this day in 1966.

In the summer of '66 I was 13 years old. My grandparents had given me a small GE portable AM radio. A palm size unit like in Dave Alvin's "9 Volt Heart"

At night I to go to sleep with the radio hanging on the curtain rod in my room. It's single ear plug secure in my ear listening to far off stations. Stations in Cincinnati, Cleveland, or Chicago. I heard all the great music, in mono, through that device.

One evening stands out. This guy with an imperfect voice singing about how "everybody must get stoned". I was listening to "Rainy Day Women #12 & 35". This was something very different and it drew me in.

Saturday afternoon in my grandparents home was dominated with The Wilbur Brothers, Porter Wagoner and The Grand Ole Opry with Lester Flatt and Earl Scruggs. Dylan guy seemed to fit into that same realm. Yet, very different. It would be a few years before I had the musical savvy to truly appreciate how much he actually did "fit in" with those Nashville icons.

Now I can't definitively identify any other tune I recall listening to that year. I listened to everything. But Dylan stands out.

Thankfully.

This is a first UK stereo - a bit beat up, but it has the right vibe.

Released in July 1966, this Bob Dylan classic is now nearly 60 years old...This is the original Australian release and still playing just fine despite some light surface marks. *Blonde on Blonde* was one of the first double albums, and was acclaimed as Dylan at his peak. I actually prefer some of his earlier releases.
