#NowPlaying Freddie Hubbard, First Light (CTI, 1971). Funky, fusion-y, big and lush, Hubbard fronts a sextet with flute, guitar, Latin percussion, and additional string arrangements, yet Hubbard’s roots as a small group bop veteran still shine through—most notably with the ridiculously hard break on “Uncle Albert/Admiral Halsey” (a Paul McCartney cover). This album won a Grammy in 1972.

Quasi aus dem Nichts haben #LunarShadow mit The Pall Of A Past World ihr neues Album veröffentlicht, in dessen Zentrum Max Birbaum einmal mehr fast alle Fäden gezogen und dem instrumentalen MachTwerk mit seiner Stimme einen Stempel aufgedrückt hat, den man durchaus wieder als qualvoll-melancholisch (im positiven Zinne) bezeichen darf. TPOAPW verzaubert aber auch mit unglaublich gefühlvollen Melodienbögen, die zum Träumen einladen.
