One last howl on Saturday Night.

I’ve never been a huge Lou Reed fan, but this collection is worth owning because it combines everything worthwhile from both The Velvet Underground AND Lou’s solo stuff up til’ 1980.

Having the few Lou solo gems with pretty much ALL the great VU stuff on one double record saves me the trouble of having to own anything other than this and Transformer.

I (or any of my close friends and acquaintances) have never understood the Lou Reed hero worship.
He’s written a handful of truly great songs, but simmer down a bit.
He was a turgid, mean disrespectful junkie asshole who would have had NO post-VU career if not for David Bowie, and his #80s & #90s records are terrible (sans ONE).

He even dragged Metallica down into his shitty non-sensical depths.

Say thank you for the few gems and move on.

A band that I missed the boat in the first time around, but am glad I’m catching up with now.

On Cocteau Twins’ Simon Raymonde’s Bella Union label, Raymonde produced the band’s first two albums for the label.

Kind of a subdued and aching #indie #alternative folk music? Really well-written songs that could have come from any time, particularly the 60s or 70s, depending on whatever production approach you chose.

John Grant is an excellent songwriter, and this best of compilation is an excellent set of songs for a blustery Fall day.

Now, I need to listen to John Grant’s solo albums, which there are several, also on the Bella Union label. I really like his songwriting approach, and he’s got a very comforting voice.
