Fs Logistix launches a new solution for extraordinary transport on intermodal trains.
FS Logistix, through its German subsidiary TX Logistik, and the Dutch specialist in exceptional transport Van der Vlist have launched a new rail solution for the transport of out-of-gauge cargo on intermodal trains. The first shipment involved the transport of two air platforms from the Quadrante Europa terminal in Verona to Rostock.
Thanks to this new solution, out-of-standard loads can travel on existing intermodal trains without resorting to dedicated convoys or extraordinary planning. An innovation that represents a significant step towards making rail transport between Italy, Germany, and northern Europe increasingly flexible.
TX Logistik currently operates the Rostock–Verona route with 16 weekly trains, eight in one direction and as many in the other, offering rapid rail connections between Italy and Germany, with the possibility of continuing to Scandinavia. In the first shipment, the two air platforms were destined for a Van der Vlist customer in central Sweden. After arrival in Rostock, the units continued by ferry to Trelleborg and subsequently by road to their final destination.
“This solution opens up new opportunities for customers seeking more flexible and reliable rail transport of out-of-gauge cargo – stated Sabrina De Filippis, CEO of FS Logistix – by combining the technical solutions developed by TX Logistik and FS Logistix with the experience of Van der Vlist in exceptional and special transport, we are able to offer robust and scalable rail solutions, simplifying planning and ensuring high operational reliability along the main European corridors.”
The new Van der Vlist bolster system, recently patented, is used to load the out-of-gauge units. This is a special railway platform on which large machines – such as excavators, air platforms or agricultural vehicles that cannot be loaded into containers – are fixed and secured for transport on a rail car. “With this innovative system, we have achieved another milestone in the development of our rail solutions,” commented Martin van Dam, Managing Director of Van der Vlist Logistics.
The service is possible thanks to the authorization to operate with the “Large Intermodal Profile,” which allows the transport of out-of-gauge loads up to 2.990 millimeters in width on regular intermodal trains, within the P400 loading gauge. Unlike special trains, this solution guarantees greater reliability, as convoys can be easily diverted in case of disruptions or works on the network, without the need for new authorizations. Out-of-gauge units are loaded using the patented Van der Vlist bolster system, perfectly integrated into standard combined transport operations.
The next phase of the project involves extending the service with internal rail transport in Sweden, using trains operated by TX Logistik AB, one of the main intermodal rail operators in the Swedish market. In addition to Sweden, TX Logistik and Van der Vlist are planning further joint connections to extend this rail solution to other European corridors.

An unusual heatwave over Italy: according to weather forecasts, in the center and north, mercury levels will reach record highs up to 36 degrees Celsius.
According to the calendar, we are in the final phase of spring, but observing the temperatures, the feeling is that we are already in the full summer. According to the latest weather forecasts, in the next few hours, the recent heatwave will peak, bringing maximum temperatures to 36 degrees Celsius in some northern cities.
This is a thermal anomaly that, according to meteorologist Lorenzo Tedici, responsible for media at iLMeteo.it, will see northern regions record values 8-9 degrees higher than the average for the period.
Based on the most up-to-date weather models, the hottest cities will be Pavia, Piacenza, Cremona, and Modena. But the heat will affect much of the Padano Plain, where temperatures will reach 35 degrees Celsius in cities such as Turin, Bologna, Alessandria, Asti, Vercelli, Milan, Lodi, Parma, Reggio Emilia, Mantua, Verona, Rovigo, Ferrara, and Forlì.
African heat will also prevail in the Center, where maximum temperatures will stabilize between 34 and 35 degrees Celsius. It will be slightly better in the South, with lower values than the rest of the country.
Anomalous heatwave over Italy: according to weather forecasts, in the center and north, the mercury columns will reach record values up to 36 degrees.
Temperatures will return to levels more in line with late spring only at the end of the month, when across much of Italy the maximums will fall between 32 and 34 degrees. A drop that, however, does not seem destined to bring real relief to Italians, due to the increase in humidity in the lower layers of the atmosphere, which will significantly increase the perceived temperature.
Further worsening the situation will be the atmospheric instability generated by these thermal fluctuations: the energy accumulated by the soil during the hottest hours will favor the development of intense, localized afternoon thunderstorms.
Tomorrow, thunderstorms will affect several areas of the North, while in the Center, bad weather will mainly hit the Apennine areas. In the South, probable afternoon showers will remain likely along the Apennines and, locally, along the Campania coastlines, while elsewhere the weather will remain more stable.
Friday will see the sun return to shine in the North, but the thunderstorm phenomena could be sudden and particularly intense. Instability is also forecast for the Center and South.
