#EdibleLupins -- [PT tremoรงoes] -- thread I've been threatening *. Yesterday, I ate the first meal based on this years harvest, and like last year's tiny test, they've given me such good day-after energy -- even soothed my iritable digestion and immune system -- that here I am writing this. It'll probably unfold over several days, lot of info.
Based on personal #growYourOwn , process-your-own, not commercial, as processed shop ones have given me bad enough gut-experiences to never want to repeat. #vegan / would-be-vegan growers note:
Lupin seed is extremely nutritious: all essential amino acids, 36% PROTEIN , 9% fat , B + other vitamins.
NIH.gov usa - 2 Sept 2022 quotes total seed oil content as 7.50 to 9.28%; analysis for unroasted ( bitter | sweet ) lupins respectively: oleic acid ฯ9 ( 42.65 | 50.87% ), linoleic acid ฯ6 (37.3 | 34.48%), linolenic acid ฯ3 ( 3.35 | 6.58%).
The seed I'm using is a traditional bitter variety, as opposed to a recently bred alkaloid-free strain. There are pro's and cons to each which I'll get to. #allotment -- even #balconyGarden, as upright, compact and attractive flowers, though not bred to be as showy as purely ornamental varieties. #lupins #legumes #nutrition
