For the 4th Poem of NaPoWriMo/NaPoGenMo 2026 , MoreCellularPoetry rules are coded in #Python. Where poems are made from various cellular rule sets to make the images come to life and give restrictions to the poet.

Back to generative art I created a line grid looking like a street map. I tried curves but I wanted to stick to a contrast to the other smooth creations.

For inspiration of what to try I often look into nature with these awesome structures. Plants, water forming sand but also the macro view of landscapes, mountains and clouds.

What is your favorite source of forms?

It's probably a lost cause and also too short notice, but I'm still thinking about #AlgoApril, which I proposed back in 2022, but it's an incomplete list of prompts and sadly never took off...

https://github.com/algoapril/algoapril-2022

From the readme:

Learning about & applying algorithms and data structures for generative art/design, helping to introduce participants to a wider spectrum of techniques.

Unlike other initiatives like #genuary, #codevember, #nodevember etc., all of which are predominantly using visual/conceptual prompts, the focus of the #AlgoApril initiative is on algorithmic literacy, using technical, algorithmic prompts (of course, with some [visual] references and study materials) without further prescribing how these algorithms should be used. The only aim, goal and hope is for people to creatively engage with these techniques, breaking 'em, hacking 'em and finding interesting uses to create outcomes, which could be considered artistic. Algorithmic layering is encouraged at each turn!

In some sense, this more "bottom-up" approach to creation is maybe alien to some, but the lack of explicit aesthetic or conceptual/artistic goals has the potential to produce a much wider scope of outcomes (hopefully not only visual - audio, text and other outputs are highly encouraged!). There's also hope it could be more educational, helping people to engage with a larger repertoire of fundamental algorithmic tools and then apply & mix them in their own work/practice.

Many of the topics & algorithms selected here will have a more or less known visual representation and we encourage everyone to consciously reject these clichés and make honest attempts to find creative other solutions to visualize/sonify/represent them.

--

In any way, I'll be following the #AlgoApril hashtag and boosting relevant outcomes to help circulation. I'm currently on a few deadlines, so not sure how much I can contribute myself, but might post some of my own prior art related to the prompts...

Here's a hair like structure made with a vector-flow-field added variables for example for the transparency and a circular constraint.

In the last Genuary I made this looking more like fur and I wanted to come back to it.
Also, my hair looks a little like this. ;)

In the last days I think of combining these artistic structures with a game. So maybe a character running with such a flow field behind him or transitions made with the dithering I made some time ago.

Would you play and look into such a game?

When I started on #Mastodon I just posted some sentences about what I had in mind. Then I learned about #Genuary at the beginning of 2023 in this community and joined it, posted the results and interacted a lot with others, with you.

Now, three years later, I shared my progress in #Sculpting with #Blender, the #Inktober drawings and the Genuary 2026.

And now for the first time I share my creations regulary since February instead of collecting the on my drive and showing them only my family and friends.

It's amazing. Kind and often very detailed feedback, questions and thoughts.

And now 150 of you genious minds and friendly companions are following my art!

It wasn't my goal to gain followers at any time but it is always nice to see that I'm going a path that I love and you, too.

So: THANK YOU!

The last post is the minimalistic creation of the same code of this one.

Here I overstretched every variable but for me it is special because it shows the similarity of circle and star and waves.

What do you see? Star, circle or space?

Now the music is in its flow, so I have time to come back to drawing and generative arts.

Today, I picked sine and cosine and combined them with some alpha values. I have many results and I will post some others of this session, too.

But here's a circle with a sine wave as the radius and this looped while changing radius and phase.

It's all coded by myself. I used mathematical functions to create this piece of art. And no AI.

2026 Genuary Wrap

This was my first time participating in Genuary. Here are some reflections about the experience.

Scheduled Work Means Work Gets Done

My long-standing journal practice has taught me about the out-sized power of small, incremental work completed on a schedule. And the Genuary work provided similar benefits. The main benefit, of course, is simply finishing thi

Finally, here's my largest compilation of code generated art that I made for #genuary.

(Context: https://genuary.art/ is an idea each day in January for making art using code).

I've made each of these with the #Hydra video synth software, to improve my knowledge of it so that I can do more livecoding performances this year.
