Time for an #Introduction!

I'm a #Black #neurodivergent (#ADHD) #disabled ace woman in her late 30's based in the UK (she/her). I have a #chronicillness (#MECFS)- used to be a nurse but housebound now. I am extremely concerned about the way our society is going so I spend my time reading, doing serious #philosophy & trying to build #community despite having severe #socialanxiety. I'm also a dedicated longtime #Buddhist practitioner. I study #Japanese as a hobby (& yes, I do like #anime!)

@Tinu 1000% this. You've nailed it here.

To be in community requires conscious, consensual discussions and willingness to change culture/rules to the member's changing needs. Culture shouldn't be static - it often needs changed.

Folks relying on "this is the culture, deal" are engaging in authoritarian behaviors that oppress and don't actually address our concerns. They aren't willing to be in community with us, which is harmful and exclusionary.

#Introduction time! I'm a #disabled academic. I research and teach #dishist and early American history. I have #hEDS and a bunch of comorbidities. I'm heavily involved in advocacy for disabled students, staff, and faculty in higher ed and I'm the founder of the Disabled Academic Collective. Hoping to use this space to reach more disabled individuals and to help disabled academics find community outside of our really ableist institutions.

Anybody ever wondered whether there is a connection between the COP summits being held in cushy resorts like Sharm El-Sheikh and the continued heel dragging? Why not have it somewhere they will see and feel the direct impact of the #climatecrisis?    đŸ¤¨
Chronic illness was never fun. But since February I wonder way more if I’m learning a new way to live or just dying very slowly…

Today is a hard Long COVID day. My brain is working well in terms of accessing information and logic. But I’m terms of keeping on task and super short term memory it is shit. I keep looping.

My food is in front of me but I keep forgetting to eat it. No sense of time. 5 minutes is eternal. An hour goes by in a flash. I don’t know if the #cancer is bringing the malaise and #fatigue or the #LongCOVID or the #Fibromyalgia.

Mastodon mods wanting content warnings on talking about racism has a very ‘leave your politics at the door’ in your very white hobby and you know they wanted to say a slur instead of ‘your politics’.

@StephTait quoted in the article above:

'“Even if you could somehow magically get all of disability Twitter to move to the same alternative social media platform, we would be siloed in a way where the rest of the world wouldn’t have to see us anymore,” Tait says. “If you push us to a site where we can find each other, but other people don’t have to see us anymore, it’s very dangerous for us because it becomes so much easier to marginalize us and to leave us behind.”'

SUCH an important point in all of this!

#NEISvoid #disabled #disability @mecfs @longcovid @chronicillness

Lol Mastodon mods asking us to put content warnings on talking about racism is just them trying to equate white peoples refusal to engage us with trauma.

Hi #opensource friends 🤓,
what do you do to make your code/software usable for others?

(I am creating a course for research software engineers #RSEng and want to share best practices on making code/software user friendly)
