Lately I come from teaching, shower/change clothes as a COVID mitigation, and just pass out. Then I wake up at a random hour eventually to eat. I know it's not sustainable but my body is just not suited for long teaching days. It absolutely demands rest immediately. Taking space to disclose because often people ask me how I handle my job and the answer is I don't.

Presenting at a conference from home and I cannot stress how many benefits virtual conferencing offers.

- I get to take my medications without worry that TSA may confiscate

- I get to navigate my home comfortably without worry my mobility aids may be damaged

- I can eat/drink whenever I feel up to it, and whenever I need, with foods that are safe for me

- I get to lay down to listen to other sessions bc it's a bad pain day

- I get to use heating pads & other devices I wouldn't travel with

#Introduction time! I'm a #disabled academic. I research and teach #dishist and early American history. I have #hEDS and a bunch of comorbidities. I'm heavily involved in advocacy for disabled students, staff, and faculty in higher ed and I'm the founder of the Disabled Academic Collective. Hoping to use this space to reach more disabled individuals and to help disabled academics find community outside of our really ableist institutions.
