Award winning biographer of the Pinwill sisters, Arts & Crafts woodcarvers of Devon and Cornwall. Churches, and all things Devon & Cornwall, especially Dartmoor. You'll see stuff about churches, not for any religious reason but because I see churches as repositories of art paid for by the community and therefore belonging to the community.

Ever seen witchesโ€™ butter? Itโ€™s found in forests around the world growing on dead branches, where it feeds on other #fungi. Researchers are studying it for the potential medicinal value of its bioactive compounds, including possible anti-inflammatory & antiallergic properties.

Castilly Henge Appeal

Cornwall Heritage Trust needs to raise ยฃ50,000 to acquire this unique prehistoric site.

Believed to be late Neolithic, it is a substantial oval earthwork with an external bank and internal ditch, forming an amphitheatre-like setting for gatherings and ritual activities.

Invasive vegetation and modern development of the nearby A30 infrastructure and service network, within metres of the site, pose potential risks.

Wasn't this #NovaScotia sanctuary site ruled too polluted (with arsenic and mercury from old gold mines) a couple of months ago? Is everyone hurrying now for any quick option? Wish a colder inland inlet could've been constructed, but maybe this will work. #belugas #NiagaraFalls #Canada๐Ÿ‡จ๐Ÿ‡ฆ

#FungiFriday is once again upon us! Here are some pear-shaped puffballs (Apioperdon pyriforme), which I'm told are edible but I have yet to actually try because they tend to be pretty small and seem tedious to prepare lol

It was a bit gloomy this morning, but it stayed dry for the duration of my walk. Spotted a red squirrel, which was lovely, and exchanged pleasantries with a very friendly cow. #Walking #Northumberland #CowsOfMastodon

Even as I create larger statement pieces for upcoming shows, my functional ware is still the most important aspect of my work because of the way it exists in peopleโ€™s homes and everyday lives. Here are a few pieces that have come out of the kiln over the past few weeks. #pottery #ceramics
@potterybyosa these are so lovely, the forms and colors.
@potterybyosa I think your work is so beautiful! I would never be able to use something that lovely day to day without a great deal of fear. Like the "good" china!
@davidpwhelan too each their own. If youโ€™re clumsy, have cats or toddlers, handmade pottery may not be the best purchase for you. We use handmade pots daily in our homeโ€”made by myself and so many others. Occasionally things break, and some of the pots we love and use so much theyโ€™ve gained a chip or two.

@potterybyosa

That is a GORGEOUS teapot ๐Ÿ˜

@potterybyosa these are utterly beautiful.
@potterybyosa
Wow. Your pottery looks amazing.
@potterybyosa Very envious of your skill, makes me want to get back to amateur pottery again!
@jsbarretto I obviously recommend it. Iโ€™m teaching a virtual workshop this weekend sharing info on how to work with clay at minimal cost from home. See my pinned post.
@potterybyosa Thanks, that sounds interesting! Not sure I have time this weekend sadly (family birthday), but I hope that goes well!

@potterybyosa ๐Ÿคฉ Beautiful work!

Forgive me, but I've been replaying the Myst game series and these look very "Rivenese" to me at the moment! I'm sure they referenced the same cultural motifs when they were doing art for the game.

Anyway, I love the form of that tea pot and the patterns and colors here are fantastic.

@potterybyosa you are an amazing artist ๐Ÿ’ž
@Krosen_nw thank you, very kind of you to say

the curves and edges are sooooo inviting... my eyes see and my hands ache to slide finger tips and graze palms along the surface then pushing deeper into the grooves and against the nubs...

eye candy hand warmers.

@melioristicmarie ๐Ÿ™๐Ÿพ the highest praise! Thank you!

@potterybyosa your work gives so much... save the praise for a rainy day, i hope you feel it always.

sharing your images and practice here is a light in dark times.

thank YOU. ๐Ÿ’œ

I love using the things I make even when /especially when they're fancy. they're study and functional and meant to be used! that's so much better than having something sit on a shelf forever.

@potterybyosa I am in LOVE with that teapot.

@potterybyosa Those pieces are wonderful! Just looking at them makes me feel calm and happy. My fingers are imagining the textures.

I will check out your website.

I notice that the website said that you have a solar powered studio. How much power do you need to do that? (I imagine an electric kiln can draw a fair amount of power.)

@karlauerbach Thank you for taking a look. The teapot is still available, but not much else. I hope to have more by late November.

Honestly, kiln firing doesnโ€™t make much of a difference to our monthly bill/power usage. It runs for a finite amount of time and I only fire a couple of times a month. What makes the biggest difference is HVAC especially during our very hot summers.

@potterybyosa I can understand why you are selling-out, your work is really nice.

I noted that tea pot - the handle made me think of ancient Egyptian hieroglyphics. I particularly liked that "earth tone vase". I've spent some time over the last couple of years in the hills west of Sedona, Arizona, so those colors look familiar.

I look forward to what you create next. I may buy some.

As a kid I tried ceramics - but I wasn't any good. More recently I put my hand to a fireplace using arts-and-crafts tiles. Here's a link to a photo...

@karlauerbach Very beautiful tile work. Iโ€™d like to make tiles one of these days. I also love the Southwest and spent a month in New Mexico just last summer. The clay soils there are stunning! Every color of the rainbow.
